Do You Share Skins from WinCustomize?

Do You Share Skins from WinCustomize?

Hi folks!

I'm trying to get feedback on various parts of WinCustomize for future improvements, and am going to be asking questions about various things on WC.  If you can take the time to respond I would appreciate it as it will directly help with future updates of WC.

We have a "share" button on each skin in the galleries.

This gives you quick access to share a skin to Facebook, Twitter, e-mail, etc.

My question is do you use it?  If not, do you share skins any other way like a browser plugin or just directly?

Is there anything you would like to see in regards to sharing skins?

Thanks!

The share buttons on the skins and articles at WC just provides a link back to here (WC). It's a great way to spread the word about skins and skinning.

In addition to pimping my own stuff (bad as it is) I love posting the amazing stuff that real skinners make and hopefully drive new traffic (subscription $$) back to WC and Stardock.

I hadn't really noticed it... but I think I'll be sharing a good deal more - this is a GREAT way to get skinning more noticed.

Yes, I do. But to be honest, I hadn't seen the "share" button. I have been tooting my own horn on FB every time I upload a new skin :d

Haven't noticed it until now. I never did get into Facebook or Twitter but I can see using the email funtion in the future.

No I do not.

Sure do, I've used it to share my skins as well as skins from others that I thought were impressive. I'm glad the share button is there.

I do it once in a while and I see others show off their stuff too. I think it is great people have other avenues to share stuff other than just Skinning sites.

I have my hand up to keep the features.

Nope don't use it ... but it's a good idea.

Thanks for the heads' up on that share button, ID.  I'm going to be using it from now on.

I'm sorry but I never use the share system here. nor at DA. The simple reason is art theft. I believe that if someone wants to share their own skins all the power to them, the artist. I don't like the fact that someone can share my works at Facebook and Twitter. IMHO this feature should be improved, make it optional.

Just to clarify....

There is no issue of 'art theft' or any form of copyright breach when the 'share' feature is used to promote a skinner's work via a diferent 'outlet' such as Facebook, etc.  The whole process of property distribution is controlled by the artist/skinner directly through the uploading process as moderation here 'ensures' that only the legitimate owner uploads/distributes on Wincustomize.com.

He/she does it him/herself and retains control over their future retention here or removal.

The 'share' function of a particular skin/upload becomes dead if or when the artist/skinner decides to deny people's access and removes the work.

This in no way compares with the re-upload and distribution by a third party who is NOT the legitimate copyright holder and is therefore 'ripping' others' works [distributing outside of the direct control of the owner of the work].

That's a shame really because the amount of exposure for skins is very high.

Well, i don't need those sites. I don't need those "friends" - people i've never met before you know. Social networks are useless like the balls from the pope. But this is my personal opinion but i respect yours, ID - I hope you know that. Those "Communities" or whatever it will be, don't make sense to me.

Neither do skinning to other communities - mainly because they have no idea what it is.

We -could- enlighten them by show off our/others work. ;)

Well, i don't think that people on facebook or other social networks are interested in skinning. They're are interested in I LIKE (every shit) and in adding strangers to their friendlist. ^_^

No :X

WHAT?? Exposed Skin on the internet??

I must THOROUGHLY investigate this.... repeatedly... XD

I had never noticed it before but after checking it out it seems like it would make sharing the link through email a lot easier. Normally I just copy the link from the browser into a email

Sorry, Onk, but you're wrong there. Several of my FB friends (Some, who also happens to real-life(tm) friends - we live far apart) have shown great interest in those skins I have featured on my wall.
And they had absolutely no clue, that it even was possible to chance all the shit that we can just by shifting a couple of pixels.

So, sharing our work with 'outsider', even on the "hated" social sites does possibly bring on new blood.

But then again, haters gonna hate, so just leave it the rest of us to show off some creativity.

Please don't misunderstand me. I have my own opinion on social networks, but i respect you and your opinion. Many friends of mine are on facebook and have thousands of friends but they know maybe a handfull of these...

Well, the point is, there are other places to share skinning stuff but social networks??...i don't know...

Maybe this is going to be a little off-topic here.

Sometimes I'll only post my "art" on facebook, just to get a feel if it's worth posting elsewhere. :w00t:
