questions about phase modding

how can i mod or modify planets such that there is no need for phase lines, sort of like giving  to all the stars and planets the phase stabilizing ability from the vasari? (it should work for any player)

how to make ships be able to warp from any point within a planet gravity well? (also should work for any player)

The "cheat" method is to simply slap phase lanes between every single gravity well within a map. Otherwise, you're outta luck buddy. Sorry.

You can actually designate every planet a wormhole in it's entity file.  You won't phase but you can jump.

The problem is connecting them as only one exit is possible :(

what about that scout phase stabilizer jump mod? how did it achieve the phase warping to everywherE?

in the phase scout mod each scout used  a modified phase gate ability that allows travel to the planet that the ability was used at for approx 5 minutes, so it does need a moderately large scout fleet to keep the gates open.

Hrm. Could such an ability be given to planets?

Say each planet (and only planets, imo,) drops a more or less 'phase scout beacon' that allows the owner to jump there directly?

Even as a racial research such an idea has potential.

(I've been toying with the idea of learning how to mod Sins, and if i figure out how to throw in playable pirates, this could make a nice research for them.)

 

It would also be interesting if you could set it up to allow all races to jump to the planets once they discovered them.

the phase scout ability ONLY works for the scout OWNER, and not even allies, and definatley not pirates or enemies, and none of the phase gate abilities that I have seen have worked with other than that player's ships.

not saying it is impossible, but would be hell for strategy as all sides could jump anywhere, so ALL planets you want to keep would NEED all possible tac structures and starbasing even with a couple of large fleets allocated only to defence of your planets, and that would slow the expansion down enourmosly, and tend to make the games take days not hours.

and would also allow the ai's to rush your home planet before you could build much of a fleet

Well, Space does tend to be open like that. ;)

I do think it would be an interesting mini-mod. Might even make 1v1 games rather ...different. 'Open Space' would just be cool, even if annoying in its ways as you say. Though that might be fixed with increased resource rates and Tactical slots, but if it only works for the owner of whatever used the ability, then there goes that idea.

And, I did not want to give it to the AI Raider-Pirates, that would be horrible. :P

I was considering making a Pirate faction as a fourth race and giving it to them as a research or such.

So I was looking into that, and not knowing how to really mod the game, I cant seem to find a way to add ship-like abilities to planets. Then while looking up random mod info about such things, I ran across this post by JA_394 here.

Give the Phase Scout ability to the Construction ships instead. Then all the actual planets you control would have a 'Phase Beacon' or whatever you want to call it, and all your ships should be able to phase jump to any planet you own. (Unless the Construction ships located there are destroyed or something. Which gives an argument to making it a planet ability instead, but I have no clue how to go about that.)

I'd still Really like to be able to figure out how to make it a more or less 'Open Space' ability.

Also. Wouldn't the AI have scout your home planet, or any planet, before being able to send ships there? O_o

if the planets have the ability then it would be available to all the conditions for the ability ie owner/noowner, but the idea about the ability being given to the construction frigates would at least restrict it to your planets that are not under heavy attack by overwhelming forces(ie construction frigates not destroyed)

hmmm maybe modify the scouts ability such that they sort of make the gates stay open for a stupid ammoutn of time (lets say 10 days?)  that way even stars will be points that can be warped straigh at.


well that sort of fixes a problem until i find how to add the scouts mod to other mods or my own mod.

now about phase itself, i modified the phase jump angle to 120 so ships can jump from any angle around the planet (but not trought it...) BUT! now how can i make it such that they can jump within any distance in the planet gravity well?
