Jafo at the GrandPrix

I guess it's my magnetic personality but yesterday [Friday] we had Car 21 [Trulli's, but driven by a team driver] drop in on us at Turn 4..... stuck his nose into the wall, Driver's right, just before our post, giving me the the honour of posting the first Incident report for Formula One in 2011.

We ended up with bits of Lotus to send back to them.....should have included a tube of hobby glue so they could put it all together again...;)

Looks like RedBull is still the one to beat....

BTW....a piece of front wing 'scraper' [edge vane] about 2" x 1/4" x 18" long weighs an ounce or two and you cannot bend/break it over your knee, no matter how much you try.  Carbon fibre is seriously strong stuff....;)

Today gets more serious...F1 Qualifying, etc.

Hopefully I won't get writer's cramp with too many bingles....;)

Saturday....we had another visitor....23 ....dead motor, so was recovered at our point.  HRT team.

Vettel got pole, followed by Hamilton and Webber on 3.

Tyres are odd...they don't lay rubber down on the track surface....usually there's a really obvious, sticky race 'groove'.

They're still bloody fast, all the same....;)

Sunday....race day.

Easiest of the lot, not even as late as The V8s on Saturday...they didn't finish till about 7.15PM.....whereas the GP should be over by about 6.40

This will be my 32nd consecutive Australian Grand Prix .....  I was a little younger when I started.

It would have been nice if I'd had a Comms partner.... being on them solo for the full 4 days without 'time off' gets pretty tedious.

Funniest part of Saturday was having Race Control ask me to verify the car number on 23 ...and me comparing team colours and camera pod colour for primary/secondary car.....only to suddenly realise that the HUGE 'marking' on the sides of the airbox......was the bloody NUMBER.

Who'd expect an F1 team would actually put a Nascar-sized number on their car?  Most have just one...and you need to be lying on the nose of it to read it....or sitting in a cherry picker over the track.

Re getting photos....gonna be impossible as I'm on Comms solo the entire day....;)

I didn't get a chance to take photos....was working solo all 4 days and as an 'Observer' you really cannot do that squinting through a camera lens.

I show up on telly...just to the left of the first DHL sign...in front of the Rowing Club building.  The Bridgestone sign wasn't there, of course ... this is a screen cap from the F1 2010 Game ... so it's a wee bit out of date...;)

You know, even those trees are correct, as are all those painted lines on the track and runoffs..... amazing game graphics...it's a wonder they didn't include me...though in 2010 I was on Turn 11 .... this is 4, viewed from apex barrier, driver's left.
