It's World Superbike Season

As some of you know, "Jafo" refers to my role as "Observer" at various forms of Motor Racing, and this weekend's the Superbikes aka SBK. at Phillip Island [southeast of Melbourne, Oz].

Actually the role is 'Radio/Flag' as I'm on Comms to Race Control ...and to speed response times have to also be the person with the Yellow flag [for crashes, etc].

It's a fun category as it's close and FAST. If you haven't seen it live you really should.

And it's not all just about bikes.....;)

Anyone who knows me well knows that I am obsessed with motorcycle racing, always have been. My main love is MotoGP, but Superbikes comes a close second.

I'm really looking forward to seeing some racing again, I've been getting withdrawal symptoms since the last season ended.

If you watch the racing, look out for a new English guy called Sam Loews, I think he will make his mark on the superbikes this season. I met him recently at a motorcycle show and he's a really nice guy.

(Jafo, I sent you a PM recently, but I don't know if you have seen it......)

Jafo, your hands are huge. Are you OK? :|

I watched the qualifying session this morning, very interesting...... :)

I'm pretty certain I saw Jafo at the trackside too, just as the session ended.

If you are in the U.K. like me, the races are at 1am and 4am, with the supersport race in between.

(I'm gonna record it...... need the sleep at my age........ lol )

Incidentally, the new guy that I mentioned in my earlier post (Sam Loews) is riding in the Supersport class, and not Superbikes........ DOH!

End of Hankers's quote

Nope, because Doc is here, reporting from the races.. Jafo's off somewhere communicating without the birds that wanted me but that I sent over to him for the pic (they're with me, now! hehehe)... bunch of blokes zooming around on bikes... not much to tell.

Yup, for a short arse they bloody ginormous. :-"

My hands are relatively small, actually.

Strangely...in that shot I was standing in a hole. I'm 5' 10". The same height as the guy with the rabbit-ears fingers.

Bryan .... the windcheater under my overies was from the 1989 500GP at Philip Island .... Gardiner won, and I spent several hours getting pissed with Doohan on the Sunday night ... until we ran out of beer and someone snaffled a slab from Schwantz's party.

Anyhoo...

Back from PI .... Cheka won 'everything'...prac, qual, superpole, and both races.

Didn't manage any photos this time.... was at 8.8 Left .... which is the run-off area for turn 8 .... Just before getting up to Lukey Heights [ 9 ].

Only the Sunday morning was wet. The rest of the time it was pretty darn good...;) [for once].

Next meeting is the 2011 F1 AGP in Melbourne ... my 32nd consecutive GP.

The SBK was my 20th.....;)

In a hole, eh? O:)

I'm 6' 2".... so you're still a short arse. ;P

Actually, I was taller, but with the compression of several discs in my spine I've lost about 1 1/2 inches

Then there's the effects of gravity on 15st. 4lb 5oz.  :-"

Really enjoyed all the races!!!   .........And I was right about Sam Loews, he damn near won his first race! just pipped at the line due to a lack of horsepower. If his team can sort that, he will be a real menace. B[]
