Why do I *ALWAYS* forget to back up my skins?

I upgraded from Vista to Win7 adn backed up everything I needed . . except my skins.

Again.

Time for a DX widget to do it for me.

After a search in the DX galleries I *did* find these. . which doesn't help but are awfully cool.

Ah Zu.... Too bad. Are you sure A backup wasn't made for you? Might be called "Windows Old". Check Under "Users". And, take a look at this post. Print a copy.... https://forums.wincustomize.com/403821

That's what happens when you spend all your time on Facebook calling some innocent fellow skinner names.

Forgo coz you spent so much time working on your Zubish Dictionary.

Yes, it's an important tome, but you must tend to 'other' priorities as well.  :-" :w00t: ;P

But seriously, if you didn't format the drive prior to re-writing you should have the 'Windows Old' folder Doc is speaking of.

Your WB, IP and CFX files would be in Users/Public/Public Documents/Stardock...

Your DX and ObjectDock files in their respective folders in Program Files/Stardock....

Dreams should be in your documents folder... depending on personal preference...

LogonStudio should be in Program Data/Stardock/Logonstudio.

Hey Zu... go here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932912/

This article describes how to restore personal files after you perform a custom installation of Windows Vista or of Windows 7.

In some scenarios, you may be unable to perform an upgrade from an earlier version of Windows. If you cannot upgrade, you may have to perform a custom installation. When you perform a custom installation of Windows Vista or of Windows 7, Windows creates a Windows.old folder that contains the files from your previous system. You may want to recover your personal files from the Windows.old folder, and move them to the custom installation of Windows.

To have us restore personal files for you, go to the "Fix it for me" section. If you prefer to restore personal files yourself, go to the "Let me fix it myself" section.

Fix it for me

//

http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9760027  <----- tool

To fix this problem automatically, click the Fix it button or link. In the File Download dialog box, click Run, and follow the steps in the Fix it Wizard.

Restore personal files
Microsoft Fix it 50582

Notes
  • The Windows.old folder that contains the files from your previous system should exist on the computer.
  • You may receive some error messages in the command prompt when you run the package. You can ignore the error messages.
  • This wizard may be in English only. However, the automatic fix also works for other language versions of Windows.
  • If you are not on the computer that has the problem, save the Fix it solution to a flash drive or a CD, and then run it on the computer that has the problem.

Then, go to the "Did this fix the problem?" section.

Should be a tool to help restore your personal files. :)

The windows.old thing didn't happen?

Always does for me. I always have to spend 1/2 hour deleting it.

Nope... he formatted pre install.

Formatting is like taking a giant eraser to your HDD. If it isn't saved its gone. Sorry to hear that Zubaz.

I always format before a fresh install...it's cleaner. My installs normally go like this.....

OK, am I ready... did I back everything up...

pictures, check

music, check

documents, check

games and programs I can't replace, check

OK, lets's do this...ok to delete partition...yes

ARRRRR...SHIT...STOP....damn, did I back up last years taxes?

Oh well, guess I didn't need those.

There's always something. Here's what I plan to do when I'm ready. First..... my backup partition is where everything goes that I have done or downloaded. This gets copied first to my Xternal HDD. Then My documents folder, Libraries, download folder, Utilities, programs...essentially everything that I access from my screen. That takes care of just about all I'll need. Being that I have all the installer packages returning my programs, while tedious, makes it easier. I have triple redundancy. A back up for my back up.

Zu....in the whole, wide world there are only TWO kinds of Computer User....

Those who back-up.....and those who cry....;)
