Been there quite a few times.

Used to a lot, not so much now.  It needs a 'Librarian' to keep it current with updates to the software.

No, I'm not volunteering, need better skills than what I have. :-"

Last 180 days of edits: http://goo.gl/bi9d4 (Thanks sViz and Gmc2)

Other questions that would make sense to ask:

  • Did you know there was a wiki?
  • Is reading the wiki accessible/easy to use?
  • Is editing the wiki easy to do?
  • Does teh wiki have useful data?
  • Have you ever *used* any data from teh wiki?
  • Have you ever tried to use teh wiki and not found the info you needed?
    • Did you find it in the forums?
    • Thought about putting it in teh wiki?
  • What would make it better?  (Other people adding data is a given.  ;) )
  • What might inspire you to add data?

Hope it don't get some bristles up but seems as much "volunteer" content (skins, art, help, etc.) and subscriptions as WC is getting from the members now, SD would concentrate more effort on maintaining/creating tutorials, wikis and other software related content themselves. <_<

How out-of-date are the SD provided documentation (linked from teh SKS Wiki entry http://wiki.wincustomize.com/wiki/SkinStudio)?  Like https://www.stardock.com/products/skinstudio/help/

What, for example, is missing from that documetnation?

LOL.  Point.

But in it's defense . . . could you make a WB7 skin with it?  With supplements from the wiki?

You can make ANY skin that'll "work" (if it sneaks past moderation), Z...but do you want a skin you'll delete two minutes after downloading it or one you'll use and like awhile... <_<

just mentioning this, hope it will work out as there are a lot of entries that are blank but, Tim and I are hoping to tackle the SKS wiki entries. I have been adding some things as I run across them but I yield to Tim's expertise on the skinning side. as he gets me data I will upload to the wiki relevant pages.

BUT, you know, anyone else that wants to help out by supplying data would be helpful. I'll do the wiki posts and give credit where due.

example: http://wiki.wincustomize.com/index.php?title=SkinStudio_Help:_WindowFrame.TopPerPixelMaximized

we're not getting fancy, just supplying "hints and tips".

I should have visited it in the past, and now I will in the future.

I would very much like to see the current ODNT apps and OD2+ updated, as well as SKS7.

As for the other apps, I'd say depends if SD intends to update them.

For tutorials on non SD apps such as Winstep and Rainlender, They are at those sites, so a simple link to them

should suffice. Why waste space on the servers?

Anyway to group all these hints and tips to one place? Or are they and I'm just missing it?

Thanks Zu, don't know how I missed that

While using sks you can click on the help tab for any section of the skin. There is also a link there that says "see if there is any any information on this section in the wiki". Most if not all times that link brings you to a blank page. Greg and I felt that our focus should be to fill in those pages with relevant info and tips so that new skinners can get help on that particular section rather than having to pour through an entire tutorial for information.

Tim, I'm sure every contribution will help the Wiki, especially from Master Skinners.

Because it's a lot easier to have everything in one central location instead of having to run around all over trying to find the info.

Jumping one link isn't "running all over".

Copying 96 or so pages of Winstep's Wiki and who knows how many Rainlendar has (and getting ok'd to reproduce and publish both) and update both?

If you had to do that or just put in two links bebi, which would you rather do?

Anyone can make a wb7 skin, with or without a wiki, to beat a dead horse, I spent 7 months on my first skin, no wiki, no forums, no.. nuthin. As far as Im concerned, making a skin is easier than navigating the wiki pages XD

roll ur sleeves up aspiring skunners, don't settle, don't take no for an answer! yooo can dew eeeet  :karma:

Personally I feel that SD should be responsible for providing a current, in depth training PDF or Video for SKS if it wants to attract new skinners or educate those already walking down the path. :sun:

we're hoping to change that. each section of each page has a wiki link, mostly empty. I have found it frustrating to be working on some aspect that for whatever reason had me perplexed. clicking on the help tab and the wiki link only to find it empty was well....

I feel lucky, I had the forums and people, like yourself, and others that would be gracious enough to answer the questions.

and John, you could help out if you wanted to, c'mon be a sport.

I wish I had time to be a sport, not enough hours in the day already, and barely making it week to week on this end.

I will always answer in forums, when i get the chance tho.

John, you are a sport and hope you know that I was just tugging your chain a bit cause of all the times we have had similar dialogs about this topic in the past. intent was humorous, hope I didn't fail too miserably.

and I also agree with you that Stardock has dropped the ball when it comes to providing the necessary documentation to ensure that their product is usable.
