If you bought it used, there is a good chance the key is already registered and if that's the case it will be highly difficult to get that key transferred to you (I'd try to return it if you are ever going to want updates and/or online play). Otherwise (or maybe even if it is used), check out this thread and try one of the support emails given in the first few posts.
