Do you have mods? They definitely increase my rates of crashing on startup.
The problem must be windows 7. I use Vista 64 and everything works fine.
Did you try to use the unofficial memory fix? Someone made a patch for those problems.
I have found win 7 64bit FAR more stable than vista, so I think it is some setting/software on their computer (btw I have a win7 64 w 12gb ati 5850 with the same version of ati driver and my only issue is the dreaded OOM)
