Object Desktop 2011 wishlist

Object Desktop 2011 wishlist

What can we do for you?

The Windows "ecosystem" is complex these days. There's Windows XP users, Windows Vista users and Windows 7 users both in 32 and 64 bit versions which require their own versions believe it or not if you want to fully support it.

Our question to you, what would YOU like to see in the next major revision of Object Desktop?

If you don't have Object Desktop already, what are you waiting for?!

'OS-wars'?

Kind of pointless to share what you'd like to see in OD 2011 if you ain't gonna see it on your OS.

A good virtual desktop solution is very important to me. It has to work on 64-bit Windows.

My only other comment would be to focus development on 32-bit Windows XP, and 64-bit Windows 7. That should keep the majority of users happy.

My best wish is for the program to automatically install the various elements of a download into their proper folders; create the folders if necessary. Ron

Which applications are not installing downloads in the right place?

There IS ALREADY in place a 'requirement' that Master skins suit all three versions of the "current" OS, and it is that which can be argued is time-bombed as people WILL migrate to Win7 [and beyond] sooner rather than later.Never have I actually received any formal written confirmation of this requirement. Let me put forth this scenario: Master skinner X submits a skin. It's rejected as a Masterskin because it does not support one of the 3 current OS. Now this skinner does not have the means to obtain a computer with said OS on for financial reasons. It's almost a catch 22 here. He cannot afford to buy the computer unless he sells some skins. But is unable to sell the skins without the OS.
End of quote

I actually had one of my master skins knocked down from master to 'normal' because it didnt have all 3 os's =( i was told via pm it had to include all 3 os's and i was told on the forums too.....(forgot who by but)

I think its alot of work..........but Im used to it so I just dont mind anymore.

as for object dock...include a full version of cursorfx in it please. (saves me shelling out extra bucks)

and while your listening.

fix the mess that is formally called skin studio, every time yr guys fix something, they break something else.

its getting old really fast. especially when its the only tool windowblind skinners have to use to make a windowblind and wb is supposed to be one of your main meats in the stew.

What problems are you having with SkinStudio?

Did anyone fix that glitch where the UIS2 titlebar close button doesn't show up if you remove everything in there, and put in a new image and choose the action of "close window"?  In order to get it to work, you have to choose a different action when you first import the image, and then change the action after you import it.

It's not a major glitch (i.e., can't be worked around), but it drove me up a wall trying to figure out why my skins had problems with people using UIS2 frames, and made me doubt my skinning skills until Vampothika posted her tutorial for Skin Studio and outlined the problem.

also the fact that many of the windows 7 features do not have an example pic of the element in use, and also there is no windows 7 only sections like there is for xp, I think that both of these would help beginners that are new to skinning wb

SkinStudio has a setting to let you set which OS you are wanting to make the skin for.  Any parts which do not apply to that OS are then hidden.

SKS working very well for me :sun:

That's true, but the bits that apply to 7 only, don't have any images in them, so if you're new to skinning, you don't have any idea about how big of a canvas you're going to need to create for those images.  It would be very helpful if there were a template skin for Windows 7 already in place (like there is for XP), so there is a hint at how big the images need to be.

New wish : Time schedule with fixes and enhancements like for Elemental. :annoyed: It really hurts to see that the OD suite has become such a letdown... I mean, do You really think us OD subscribers to be total idiots ???

Next excuses for updates of OD apps not happening will be the needed manpower for ongoing updates for that f***g game.

At least WB is still going.

I don't think they believe us to be idiots....they believe us to be junkies.  They got us hooked on hydro and now we're grateful for regs...WHEN they have them.  Stardock is the only dealer in town, so....we're at their mercy unless we kick the habit.

Just another thread to keep people busy and hoping. See when it started and how Brad never came back.

I second the  suggestion of multi-monitor taskbar with support for Win7's taskbar features.

Because Win 7 has such a good UI ODNT needs to focus on where it started, productivity.  That's where apps like RighClick, ObjectBar, Control Center started out and I thing there is still a need there.

+1!

Can we revive Object Edit please?

Thomassen: Just get Notepad++.

way better, free, under development and comes with Norwegian translation.

download: http://notepad-plus-plus.org/

and this is only one option, pretty much every text editor available has better features than Object Edit.

I do use Notepad++

But I still miss ObjectEdit at times. It was small and nimble.

Notepad2 to the rescue. ;)
