1.06.019 I often get zero gold for defeating monsters in tactical battle

But i get the gold if I do auto-combat. Has anyone else encountered this?

I figured it out. the confusion spell makes their attack value go negative instead of halving it. which is a neat exploit and makes them unable to hit me, but it reduces their combat value to zero, thus no gold reward for defeating them.   slowly fireballing them to death takes longer, but i get paid...
