Problem with a skin I''m making

Can anyone tell me what''s causing this black line? As far as I can see it''s not in the colour scheme and it''s certainly not one of my bitmaps.

This has been perplexing me for some time.

Cheers

If it's a Windowblinds skin, I think that line is controlled by the 'window border' attribute in the colours section.

Hard to say without looking at the skin in person.

I think that is either 'button shadow' or 'button dark shadow'

Thanks for the help but nope, it's neither of those.

Here's the skin if that helps

I should say that it is specifically made for Windows2000 so there's not a lot of stuff in it.

Must be something relative to W2k......... those black lines don't show here, on XP. Sorry, but I haven't a clue.

You may have missed this section. It is not seen in the normal view. Open Skin studio, and in the center pane there are icons on the left. Click the down arrow bar in that pane and you will see classic colors. Click the icon, and you may find your black in the preview window. Click on the black and the location of that color should highlight now on the right pane. You can change it there.

Yes, your button dark shadow is black. But, after opening the skin, I must agree with Koasati. I don't see those black lines either on XP. Maybe win2000 is using the black for the button dark shadow in that area. Win2000 may apply the skin attributes slightly differently.

I don't find the black lines either.....but after applying this skin (sorry to hijack here a little bit grindlestone) I noticed that it uses the classic start menu, but at the same time it uses the XP shellstyles. My question is, how do you tell SkinStudio that you want to do a WB skin for the classic gui and how do you get it to use the classic shellstyles vs. the XP shellstyles? I noticed in this skin, both sections of attributes where Deleted. Thanks

Thanks everyone for throwing their brains up against this problem.

OK I changed the button dark shadow from black to orange to see if it made a difference - it didn''t. Also I notice some that other skins do not draw this black line. Snidely Whiplashes port of Kol''s Blue Turquesa has a mid blue line for instance which is different to the dark greay he uses for dark button shadow. I took a screenshot and found the exact colour but it does not appear anywhere in his colour scheme.

Any more ideas?

-Essencay - I started this skin in Skinstudion 2.5. Recently I bought OD and upgraded everything. I think SS4 has added the standard shellstyles on its own. as for the start menu I may just have deleted that at some point..or..I just don''t know. Working with W2K I normally delete anything I can in a skin and just leave the window frame and buttons. The rest I''m not very interested in. Lots of my skins only have about 10-15 bitmaps in them. I hope that helps.

My only idea is to start over, and do it part by part to see which part cuases it test it each ttime

Also try unloading WB ie...applying the Windows classic interface, then retrying the skin, maybe some leftover color quirk from a previous skin.

Mr. grindlestone, I don't think you are hearing us correctly. The black you are experiencing only seems to be on your Win2000 system. It does not appear on WinXP systems. You could try to apply the skin and restart your system if the problem is as Essencay mentions. This should apply the skin without any quirks. If you still see the black then it is Win2000 doing it.

Your skin is coming along nicely, I wouldn't worry about the black. It doesn't look bad, and it is so minor.

Essencay - Thanks but I'd done that heaps.

ChasUGC. Sorry if I seemed rude or dismissive of your input. In fact I am well aware there are differences between 2k and xp and I had taken your advice into account as regards my future plans for this skin.

Presently, I think the problem lies elsewhere, however. I just created two new skins, one in the classic style and one in the XP style. Guess what? A black line in the classic skin and a soft pale blue line in the XP style. It looks like these line are pre defined in the two skins. I looked at other recent skins by other authors and saw that this line varied from grey to blue matching the skin's colour scheme. So it looks as if I need to restart the skin in an XP style and strip away the stuff I don't need for windows 2000.

Thanks for your input and encouragement re the skin.

It's okay. I guess that's what one gets for trying to help.
