Help with substyle optimization...

Here's the situation;

I make a UIS2 skin with a normal looking Start Panel. I want to make a substyle with a compact Start Panel so I choose to duplicate the current skin without copying the graphics since they are all exactly the same. All I want to do is change some of the metrics of the Start Panel.

I edit the start panel in the newly created substyle to my liking and save it.

POW! When I load up the original skin and/or apply it, BOTH the original skin and the substyle have the same metrics applied for the Start Panel.

Huh? Ok. So I re-edit the original skin with the old Start Panel metrics and save it.

POW! Both the original skin and the substyle have the edite Start Panel metrics applied [again]. Grrrrr!!!!

So I've found that the only way to get the same skin with the exact same graphics to have different metric information is to duplicate the original UIS2 skin *and* the graphics associated files. This doesn't make sense to me and I know it must be wrong.

Doing it this way DOUBLES the size of the Windowblind distributable and I don't like that. I *know* this can be done differently but I don't understand it well enough, I guess.

I hope I didn't confuse anybody.Can somebody help me on this, please?

Thanks mucho grande!

#1 - I wish I could have offered some advice...I've been hoping to hear the answer myself though as I'm planning on doing similar things, and I'm not aware of the best way to do this either

I'm sure you haven't got any help because no one knows any other way to do it.

i just did it thismorning and it worked find, if what you did was in skinstudio, save as substyle then it should have worked, cant see why it wouldn't.
