My dream deskop & a very cool new(?) idea --Galadriel's pool: Any leads...?

OKay, so I've just recently stumbled into this community and the stardocks apps, so I don't know how much of the following might already be possible, but here is what I would love my desktop to look like:

Functionality...it seems that a desktop should primarily be a snapshot of vital information.

I)Productivity
i)My Outlook Today info (I note that there is an outlook object, but a)the script gives me a version error and b)showing a calender doesn't seem to make sense when what we really want is a snapshot of the day's events and tasks. There is an app called desklook that does this, and for now I'm using it, but it isn't very configurable as to what you can shoose to see)

ii)A dropdown list of my goals/priorities with a prograss and/or status bar

iii)A chekbox list that clears each new day (Did I write in my journal, Did I overview goals, etc)

II) System Info
i)Uptime, but better yet...
ii) A plugin that shows which apps have run during the day and for how long (help to log productivity, boundaries with games/net -time suck issues)
Even better --you say in the setup which apps apply to a certain cetegory (ie Games/enertainment/work/communciation/etc --and then it shows a timebox with the time spent for that category)

III)Personal/Educational
i)Here's my coolest idea:
Any Tolkien fans probably remember Galdriel's pool --how when stirred it gives you glimpses of the past, present or future possibilites...
Well in basic form: I imagine an object that loads a random image from your pictures (memories, size configurable as an option.
More elaborate: I imagine an object like a pool/mirror that when your mouse is wiggled over it loads a new random picture, video, or snips a paragraph of text from your text documents.

ii)Random quote for the day --database configurable and multiple instances able

iii)Random fact (vocab --or say a paragrpah pulled from encarta or something)

iv)News headlines --one that someone with a dialup (like myself) can use and only checks when you dialup or once a day, etc.

IV)Toolbars
Easiest part --various toolbars to apps, but particularly dropdown menus to various document folders


How to get all of this to look good or be streamlined to a theme is less important to me, though it would be cool.

Well, sound good to y'all? Any leads? Any inspiration, especially with Galadriel's pool?


BTW, I'm just trying and testing out these apps...like the fish, except for some reason one little bugger likes to wander over my current window and when I change his opacity, when he leaves the screen and comes back, his opacity goes back to normal...?
