Is it a bug with Iconpackager or is it me being stupid????????

I have been trying to update the iCandy Junior Icon packager themes with all the new custom file types which have been released by FOOOD in the past few days however i have run into the following problem. There are about 50 file types and when i customize the file types and save them into the package all seems well however when i reload the package or swop to another package and then return to the iCandy package some of the file types have miraculously changed!!!.

This problem seems to particulary affect the individual files for Midi sequence, Movie clip, Video clip and wave sound and vertually all the Winamp file types plus a few of the images files.

This is driving me nuts..........perhaps i have had too much Christmas beer

Anyway i removed all the other Iconpackage themes and just played with this one and still no joy. I then totally rebuilt my icon cache still no joy. I then uninstalled Iconpackager and reinstalled from scratch and guess what same problem.

I am praying this is something simple that i cannot see but i have got a sneeking suspicion that Iconpackager cannot take what i am throwing at it.

I would love someone to point out the error of my ways before i go totally mad

The 128 X 128 icons you can use to convert into dock icons

I would almost rather see the large ones released separately as a pack or individual icons. That would cut back on the file size a LOT.Not important to me,but... Plus128(to me ) is the minimum size for a dock icon, they look better larger.I guess what I meant was, besides OD,is there a use for 96 and 128 icons?Really,I dont know.I never see any larger than 48 on my pc,but I know you can push them up to64.I just never have.

Just another thought to anyone............when you put a package together you have to put in info re author etc etc when you save the package.....there is a little box at the end which says windows xp only which you have to tick or not.........does this have any effect on your icons?

IR........good point on the sizes......you have got me thinking

I'm sure someone with more icon experience than me could answer that size question. You got mail

I dont know how icons are packaged, but I bet all that alpha trans only works on 2000 and xp

Just for grins I bumped the icons up to96...they look good but the text and icons overlap.

This is IR's mail to me

It installed fine, but it dosnt show as an IP package, just a regular zip.Still it installed fine from IP.Just clicking on it from the desktop didnt work.I see phone socket. Some zip icons stay the same(oddbal zip formats that never change anyway). All the regular zip files are showing the new icon. All movie clips,tv shows etc.. show as wmv.All the others are fine(mp3,midi,wav,etc..)#4 I'm not sure about yet...still IP should display the correct icon(or at least not change it to the wrong icon). Most users dont want (nor should they have to)to fiddle with individual icons everytime they change themes.

IR you have been a great help and confirmed some of the problems that i could not decide whether they were just on my 'puter or what.....and you have certainly fiven me FOOOD for thought - 'cuse the pun

IR - if there is anything else you think of chuck it at me

I think i am going to leave a message on the general board to see if anyone else has any imput as well as it seems a lot of people a lot of people hardly frequent the skinning board.

I am not going to put these packages up until they are right and i am not far off

If you are using a lot of icons have you thought about increasing the size of the icon cache?

Hmm, I don't know if You fixed the problems with the media icons but a good try would also be to switch off winamp agent if installed.
A good size for icon cache is 4096 btw (I use that size all the time without any problems).

If You want You can also send me the iconpack for testing.

OK.......FYI.......the package is 20 plus MB large.........i have just upped the icon cache to 4096 but that made no difference.......I upped it to the max which is 8000+ and on restart the size of the cache had been changed back down to 1024......took it back to 4096 and then turned off winamp agent ok liked that......had a big fiddle load and reload etc and same thing.....what is really strange is that sometimes it will skin the .zip icon but other times it will not........some times the winamp music files are skinned and other times they are not or jumbled up.......the network connections icon still keeps changing to a totally different icon...........mind boggling..........

actually you can make icons all the way up to 128 in the system, but things start to not line up properly because windows wasn't designed for that.

And for the file types not loading correctly. It sounds like the programs are reclaiming the icons and changing them. I know winamp can do this. But i will leave you in better hands then me.

winamp was my biggest prob with IP,the file association was still winamp but the icon always changed to wmv.

Don't know if this will help....Have you tried to reset the 'Set Program Access and Defaults' under 'Add or Remove Programs' or reset file types within WM?

The guys at Stardock are not back until next week so i will have to wait till then for any other possible solutions but i have got some time off tommorrow and i am going to start both packages from scratch and include some of the suggestions that you have all made and see what happens....You never know
Reply #48 Top
Stupid question, but I gotta ask.

Do you have "Custom Files" checked in the include section of the packages tab?
