Problems with galaxy forge/particle forge?

Hey what is up people. I'm having a few major issues with galaxy forge and particle forge; the same problems. The first problem is, when i attempt to download either of these from this website in the download section, it keeps trying to open the files with internet explorer. So basically, i can't download them unless i know what to open the files with. The second problem was when i downloaded galaxy forge from Filefront.com(it was version 1.05,the latest i could find). Everything went smoothly and i had no problems, but when i reopened GF from previously closing it, before it even starts up it says ''galaxyforge has encountered a problem and needs to close.'' with the send error report/don't send buttons beneath.

One last issue. When i actually save a complete map in galaxy forge, it does not appear in-game(as in, when i switch to the 'galaxy forge' section of selecting maps, nothing's there). Keep in mind that i save it to C:\Program Files\Stardock games\Sins of a solar empire\Galaxy , with all the other GALAXY files from other scenarios. I've heard that opening the file in notebook and changing the version of it on the first few lines would fix it, but it says version 1 and i dont know what to change it to. Lastly, i have v1.191 of Sins,w/o diplomacy or entrenchment, though i was going to get the bundle of the two.

Haha..what a mouthful XD. So yeah i need some help on these major issues that, through lots of pages of google search, no one else seems to be having.

First, on downloading them from the website, right click the download button and hit the save link as command. That will allow you to download it to your computer (alternatively, download and start using firefox so you won't have that issue, plus its better than explorer IMO).

Any maps you make with that galaxy forge will show up in game, but for your version (the most recent one), you are putting the maps in the wrong place. To quote someone else much more complete explanation.

Assuming you have sins 1.191/entrenchment 1.051/diplomacy 1.011,  the galaxy forge maps NEED to be placed here for xp
C:\Documents and Settings\'user name'\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\GalaxyForge

or here for vista/windows 7
C:\Users\'user name'\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\GalaxyForge.

NOTE the first two folders after the 'user name' are hidden , so to see them you must first click on 'tools' then 'folder options', then 'view', then click on 'show hidden files& folders' then click ok, then you will be able to browse your want to the folder. I suggest when you find the folder that you create a shortcut to it on the desktop

NOTE 2 the 'user name' in the above paths is your WINDOWS login user name, eg Administrator

if the map IS a galaxy forge and giving the instant win/loss screen then MAKE sure that EACH player has a home planet and is not for a particular mod that has extra home planets and stars

and if a map you want to play was released before 25th feb 2009 then you will also need the sins map updater from here
http://files.filefront.com/sins+map+updater+v201rar/;13585432;/fileinfo.html.
End of harpo99999's quote

If it still crashes after downloading the most recent version, post again along with when it occurred (on start up, adding a planet etc.).
