Half-Life 2 is out...

Half-Life 2 is out.  I'm waiting for my new machine to arrive before playing it.

But in the meantime, if anyone wants to start creating skins, themes, icons, or walls for it and submitting them, we'll highlight as much as we can here!

Fantastic? Ummm... I was going to write a blog on how terribly and horribly disappointed I was with HL2 (storyline wise) but since I've already bashed Doom3 a few days ago, I restrained myself this time around. Story-wise, this is a huge step backwards, imho and way too short of a game given the time they spent working on it.

I was looking forward to Half-Life 2 with all my heart, and now that I’ve finished it, I’m actually a bit let-down. I found the story to be kind of… empty. I also was disappointed by the lack of enemies to fight the biggest and most fun enemies to fight were the fewest in number. I was also disappointed that the game only introduced three new weapons from the original (though the gravity gun was fun), and took some of the coolest weapons from the original out completely (all four of the alien weapons, the satchel charges, and the trip mines).

The game’s graphics are the best I’ve EVER seen, the audio is fantastic, and the feel of the game owns any others out there, but I was just disappointed by it. I kept hearing that the game is the “Best PC Game Ever,” and that just wasn’t the case for me, despite the fact that I LOVED the original Half-Life endlessly.

That said, while people felt that DOOM 3 was overhyped, I thought it was an absolute BLAST to play through. I was always on the edge of my seat, always surprised, etc.

While I’m not going to compare the two in a formal statement (ie. saying HL2 is better than DOOM 3, or vice versa, since they are different games), I just think I had a lot more fun playing through DOOM 3 than I did HL2. I’m going to replay it in a few weeks, and see if my expectations were what got in the way of my enjoyment of the game.

I am just starting to play the game and I am really didappointed in the bugs in it. The load time is the biggest thing. It takes so long that for someone like me who has trouble staying focused on one thing for to long that it spoils any excitment away. I really like the involvement and how you have to figure things out greatly improve this game from others. There is also alot of stuttering going on and I've tried everything I can think of to reduce this but to no avail. Other than that it looks great. I am a BIG Half Life fan so this will last for awhile. Oh Doom 3 to me kind of SUCKS. i started playing games because of Doom and I've probably played most of the add ons and versions that were made so this was kind of a let down. Hell I haven't even gotten half way through it yet. It gotten boring.

ok , which game ( similar to HL2 and Doom3) would you say is absolute tops ?? I'm considering buying one of these but am not all that certain yet as to which . Online play would be required though ( I think the longevity of these games is based on the online playing and the modding ) . I tried Soldier of fortune II a couple of years back ,but was highly disappointed with that one .

Also have Rainbow Six III,Raven shield , like that one but it's buggy .

Well HL2 Is WAYYY better than Doom3 in all ways the original story was better BUT did u guys know u can play the HL1 story with the new graphic engine? just buy the $60 dollar Silver package and it comes with HL1 Source CS Source and DoD Source the HL1 story with the new engine is a must play for all HL lovers MMMMMMMMMM sweet

I have both and HL2 is by far the better of the two. You can play HL2 offline but you need to create a Steam account to play and get any updates to the game. Doom is what got me started play PC games and I've played them all (Doom) but this one is boring Hell I haven't even finished it yet. Get HL2 plus you can get a used edition of Doom 3 a lot cheaper at most EB Games or any where else they take or buy used games.
