I wonder if they have attempted to use flash in desktopX I think it would add a world of possibilities. Just check out some of the cool stuff you can do with flash stand-alone projector, I can only imagine what could be accomplished with the 2 combined... A video chat widget, just the animation possibilities alone would make this rock... Oh and don't forget flash is vector based, totally scaleable apps with no resolution limits. Could give sparkle or whatever the longhorn vector based engine si called.

Anyone know if the stardock guys are looking into this?

Yep - DesktopX can use flash already.  Check out some of the games.

DX videos, cool, thank you
About Flash on DX, i was looking for more Flash possibilitys on DX too but just found that you can make high quality animations using the DX AniUtil too, give a bit more work cause it's frame by frame but it's fun too, maybe i was just looking for a way to use ActionScript on DX, cause i'm a zero on VB and JavaScript

I think your tutorial movies are a great idea would like to see more of them, Even some on The DXplayer. How ever it might help to plan in advance what you wish to demonstrate. I know you know what you are doing, but for the rest of us who haven't your experience It is hard to follow when you jump from tab to tab. A little more explaining as you go along would also help. Example.. When you are talking about scripting tell us how you got the drop down box to show the different states such as rotation and hue change. I have tried to find it and can't. When I saw that you were a little confused at what you were writing a script for, I thought wow If he is having trouble with it I will Never be able to do it.

I am not trying to tell you how to do things or disrespect you in any way. Just trying to say if you want more people to use you product to the fullest and make better skins and widgets, There are a lot more of us that need the benefit of your experience and help then there are those than have a natural ability to jump in and do all of this with ease. Some areas of desktopx are easy to figure out others are just to hard to figure out. Object Media is one of the hard areas. Any way just some of my thoughts. Please do not take any offense at any thing i said as none was intended

Murex: Perfect is the enemy of good.

I agree that production values and more planning would make for much better movies. The result would be that there would be no movies.

Completion is a friend of Good

I wasn't suggesting that you make DVD quality movies. I was just trying to say we need more Precise details, to have full knowledge of what you are trying to tell us. If you are trying to reach the majority of your users more information is required. If you are trying to reach only the top 10 percent then you don't even need movies as they have the knowledge to figure it out for themselves. If you want quality widgets and themes, then information and working plugins are required.

Even as is, it's really hard to get these videos out. Even what you see here was very time consuming.

I am in the camp that something is better than nothing and if they took any more time, even an hour or two, they just wouldn't get done at all.

BTW, the movies are not designed as a replacement for the documentation that comes with DesktopX. There's a ton of info about how to use DesktopX.  The movies are just designed to point people onto the path.

This is an example of what I am talking about

I wanted to make a dxplayer with an equalizer in it, Should be simple enough, make all of the sliders, make a button to turn it on and off . well that didn't work. contact a couple stardock employees, Was sent back an object to make it work. No it still doesn't work. I asked a few more questions why won't this work, I was told that something wasn't working right in either my computer or object desktop. No one every told me that you had to

Start/Object Desktop/ObjectMedia Then go to objectmedia icon in system tray - right click this icon and select Options...Go to the Player tab and click Enable DMO, and then Parametric equalizer, No one ever mention this when they sent me the object to turn the equalizer on..Finally months later some one at stardock told me what to do. Which by the way It still doesn't work. Also if I was to get it to work and uploaded it, The object would not automatically work for the person who downloaded it, They would have to know how to go into objectmedia to turn it on. If any of this is in desktopx documentation I can't find it. There are just to many areas of desktopx that are obscure, Too many left over plugins that don't work, Which makes it really hard to make an object that works, Again I am talking about the average user, Not the wiz kids.If you think you are disappointed in the quality of objects that are being made, Put your self on this side, Try putting together an object that won't work because of a plugin that won't work because it is either non functional or no one can tell you how to make it work

Murex, you picked a non-ideal example since DXPLayer is currently in the midst of a major overhaul to make it much easier.

But the point of the videos isn't a tutorial on how to do that. It's just meant to get people set on the path.
