DesktopX 2.3 released

http://www.desktopx.net

DesktopX is a program that enhances your Windows desktop by allowing users to add widgets to it or change it all together by loading themes for the DesktopX environment.

DesktopX widgets are .EXEs which means they can be run outside the DesktopX environment. Widgets are mini-applications that add new functionality to your desktop.

DesktopX widgets can be brought up with a hot key (Avedesk 1.2 and Konfabulator both have this functionality as well).  Popular widgets include weather monitors, media players, stock tickers, calendars, and more.

Version 2.3 updates DXPlayer to support Windows media player WITHOUT needing SDPlayer installed.

gef: Odd. Does it work any better if you extract this into DesktopX\SDPlugins? http://www.zen9361.zen.co.uk/DXPlayer.zip

I should clarify that DXPlayer supports Windows Media Player *internally*. You do not open the WMP application to use it. It is as if WMP is already running invisibly once you load an object that uses DXPlayer. You can open playlists and play them in this invisible WMP with DXPlayer, and it will save its playlist when you unload and reload DesktopX.

Murex: What are you trying to use it with? On its own? With ObjectMedia? With Winamp? With something else entirely? Did you try the one I linked? More details would help.

If you select playlist, it wants to open .wpl files which are windows media player. It doesn't seem to be able to open a folder of mp3 files in objectmedia.

I am using it on it's own, I have been using it without any problems for months. Now the menu button, file button, folder button and play button won't work. And it isn't just with themes i have made it won't work with any theme

Yes what you said, thank you Gef i was trying to figure out how to word that
Reply #12 Top
gef: Yes, that's because it doesn't use ObjectMedia anymore, although perhaps we need to reconsider that.

Murex: Previous versions didn't work on their own - it always worked with some form of media player. So I would assume that you had something loaded up, even if you didn't know it - perhaps ObjectMedia. Does the player work any better if you unzip these files - http://www.zen9361.zen.co.uk/DXPlayer.zip - into your SDPlugins directory? (C:\Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop\DesktopX\SDPlugins here)

GreenReaper Sorry when you asked me if it worked on it's own, I thought you were talking about objectmedia, Yes objectmedia is how I use it. I will try the files Thank You I will let you know.

Just thought I would add that the files mentioned don't make any difference.

GreenReaper I replace the new dll file into C:\Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop\DesktopX\SDPlugins, Didn't make any difference

Bring back ObjectMedia!!

I will post a DLL here that at least allows you to use it later tonight, although I will try to get it so it does not *start* it if it is not around already (because the intention is to move away from OM).

If we are not using ObjectMedia anymore, what alternative do you suggest?
Well, the whole point is that it should be working without ObjectMedia. That is, you should be able to open files/folders/URLs/WPL or M3U playlists and do all the things you normally do to them. It will not however open ObjectMedia playlists.

If you don't have OM running, what happens when you try to open a file or folder - do any dialogs come up? What does pjpowell's Beetle Player - https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?library=3&SkinID=2742 - say is being used? (load the player, then click the black button on the right and look at the Status section in the bit that expands out)

And also, what version of Windows and Windows Media Player are you using/do you have installed?

tried to edit but it says (i am not authorized to view this page) any way when I said i got a failure that's what I was talking about It was in the status section
Reply #25 Top
Well, I said I'd do it, and I did!

Get this one if you want ObjectMedia to be the default if it is active: http://www.zen9361.zen.co.uk/tmp/DXPlayerSPPriority.zip
Get this one if you want ObjectMedia to be the default and run when you press a button if it's not running: http://www.zen9361.zen.co.uk/tmp/DXPlayerSPExecute.zip

Either way, extract into C:\Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop\DesktopX\SDPlugins and maybe the ObjectMedia directory as well.

Work any better?
