IconX is a new program that allows users to do really cool things with their Windows desktop icons. Amongst its features include:

  • Have icons "zoom" when you put your mouse over them.
  • Animated transitions based on their state (grow and shrink smoothly)
  • Sound effects based on mouse events
  • Special effects based on mouse events
  • Any sized icons on the desktop
  • Shadows, glows, tinting, and other effects to icons
  • Replace any desktop icon with a new icon or PNG image
  • Save your settings as "themes" to use later.

For users who like to have their desktops look nice, IconX is a must-have program. It is part of Object Desktop (Stardock's suite of desktop enhancements) but is available as a free download as well.

Cool =D

Can IconX icons be locked in place so users won't be able to mess up a certain layout?

Above question arised because of previous IconX was part of DesktopX and then the IconX icons could not be set to "non-draggable".

Is IconX 1.0 (presently) a separate program that incorporates itself in DesktopX...DesktopX Settings?
IconX is a seperate program but if you have DesktopX installed you can control it from the DesktopX config.

That is the current build.  We are announcing the shareware version. If you ahve Object Desktop you've had it for awhile.

Ugh, it won't let me edit that comment, but I wanted to add that today it updated me to the release of WindowBlinds 4.39c[rc].002, FYI.

Oh, I see, thanks for the heads up Brad, else I'd still be looking for that update. And I now see mention of the shareware version.

I used IconX when it was still part of DesktopX and found it a nice concept but struggled to configure it and also found it appeared to forget images I assigned to icons.

However, now that it's standalone I took it for a burn earlier on today at work.

All I can say is: "Sweet like a lemon"

Hey folks

Has anyone else used this with Active desktop running and Samurize Clients running. I tried installing it and using but all of my desktop items went away until I closed it? Is there a way to set it to work with the current desktop and just add Icons with it to programs?

Thanks

Cool! Is there going to be a library of IconX themes added to WC?
I like that you can save your settings as themes - great idea all around

Frogboy, I'm still seeing the same issues with "zoomer" functionality in IconX 1.0. I followed up with a couple of emails to Alberto as you suggested, but haven't heard anything back in 1week+. Congratulations on the shareware release and "G.A."!

Icon X is X-cellent. However, i find that after my screen saver runs, when i go back to my machine, my Taskbar is gone. This doeasn't happen when i don't run Icon X. It's not such a big whoop though. All I do is check and uncheck "Hide Windows Taskbar" on my ObjectDock settings, and the taskbar is restored

Frogboy,

Thank you for responding to our question (i.e., Is IconX 1.0 (presently) a separate program that incorporates itself in DesktopX...DesktopX Settings?). WinCustomize>Monday, August 30, 2004 - IconX 1.0 released!

Your reply (i.e., IconX is a seperate program but if you have DesktopX installed you can control it from the DesktopX config.).

Are you aware that there is an issue(s)/bug(s) with IconX within DesktopX Settings, or config. in DesktopX Version 2.20.027? IconX in and of itself alone , I cannot comment.

We have been informed that when this matter is resolved it will be in the next release of DesktopX (beyond Version 2.20.027). Will you report this news on WinCustomize when it has been released? And, just when (approximate time frame) will this happen?
