Hang In There for DesktopX

Now on a desktop near you......

https://www.wincustomize.com/explore/desktopx_themes/4522/

Just a sneak peek at my upcoming DesktopX theme called Hang In There DX.

There are slideable hangers across the screen, hanging from a pole that will autosize to your resolution.

Each hanger contains a slide down menu into which you can drag and drop your shortcut icons.

There is a hidden media player, with speakers that show when you hit play, hide when you hit stop, an object panel, and an analog clock that also hangs from the bar. Also a folder drop.

The bar can be moved up and down your screen.    Hope you like.

EDIT: It is now in the gallery.  Here.

Thanks Starkers...and it's in THE gallery...lol!

My tester, Wizard1956, got home from work sooner than I had anticipated!  O:)

Just some more shameless self-promotion, but what the heck, if it makes DesktopX more interesting, I guess that's alright.

Something else--it looks like you're pulling a Murex on us; your graphics are looking pretty slick. I really like the look of it, and that's a good name.

Is there any chance of getting some tabbed docks to go with this? I have more than a hundred shortcuts and I couldn't get them all on the hangars.

Oh goodie.... DX doesn't get as much airtime as it perhaps should here, but this theme will have me dusting off the cobwebs presently. I'll go download it and fire up the old app to see how it looks in use.

Hang in there and I'll let you know how it goes.

Well I left a comment under the skin to say that I really like the theme but was having problems with elements not responding well to commands, but that issue is not exclusive to Hang in There.  I tried some of the tried and true themes from way back and they are also exhibiting these response issues.

Thing is, it's not just DX components!   When a DX theme is applied, I have issues with opening the sys tray and start menu, etc.... they display momentary lags/freezing.  When DX is unloaded all goes back to normal, so I believe it may be related to issues with DX in Win 7 x64.  Pity, I was looking forward to using this in conjunction with a Harley theme I was putting together.

That is what the folder shortcut is for on the menu. If you follow the link in the description, there is a good tutorial on how to set your rig up for use with all my themes.

Docks?.....We'll see.

I also left a comment in the gallery stating that this theme was made on 64 bit 7, so it must be something else on your system conflicting with DX.

I wish I could create the error here, so I could maybe fix it.

Hey, are you using DX 4.0?

Try 3.5. I can't do anything with 4.0.

Yep... version 4.0 it is.   Now that I look back on it, it has only been since I applied the 4.0 update that I've experienced this issue.  So no, it's not a Win 7 conflict or the theme.

That's my next move.... fortunately I have an archived copy of 3.5 saved in Impulse.  Goody, I'll be able to use this and other themes now.

Thanks for the heads up/thought/reminder.  :)

BTW, I made some improvements and am going to update the skin. Sorry guys, it just gets better.

Well that's it then!  Won't be running that POS DX program on my rig again.  Reverted back to 3.5 and everything went to shit after I loaded a theme.  I kept getting a zip code error message that would not be canceled and kept going around in circles.. over and over... and fucking over.  Nothing on my desktop would work... NOTHING!!!  No start menu, no sys tray.... eff all.... not even ctrl alt del to run task manager to shut DX down.

I had to do a hard shutdown and reboot into safe mode to get rid of the POS... and I'm so pissed right now!!!!!!!   40 minutes out of my day.

GRRRRRRR!!!!!!!

*End Rant*

Sorry, RND, it's not your theme... they ALL eff up big-time... because of this POS

This usually only happens if you try to run the old weather widgets. The ones made before the TWC people took our feed. If that's it, just be sure to run the new weather widgets.

Sorry you're having troubles. 3.5 is very stable for me on XP, Vista, and 32/64 bit 7.  :S

Yeah, I had a brain snap before... sorry.  I had a pounding headache and just got angry cos nothing was going right.

Yeah, I realise that, but when DX loaded it automatically installed the last used theme, an older one with the old weather feed.  From there it all went downhill and I couldn't recover control of my desktop.

In essence then, all of those older themes are now useless.  I know that you updated all yours, but I'm not so sure a lot of these have been. Anyway, I'll uninstall DX 3,5 completely, run a cleaner and try again with a clean themes folder, adding only themes with updated weather widgets.  Hmm, I'll have to delete a lot of my objects and widgets, then.  Most of them are pre-change over and will no longer work.

Anyhow, that'll all have to wait until tomorrow.  Right now I'm going to have another shot at getting some much needed sleep.

Starkers, you'll notice that because of TWC, I no longer include weather with my themes. Most of my older work has no weather. Most of my newer work, has a matching weather widget as a separate download.

This one has been updated and in moderation for a day or so guys. It'll be back soon!!

That's right!   I noticed that you've been doing separate weather widgets of late.  Still, I'll have to ditch most, if not all of these older themes... cos if they're applied the weather component is going to go guts up again and give me grief.

As for the sleep I needed muchly.... didn't get a lot (about 45 mins) and I've been feeling non-compos-mentis all day, so doing a clean install of DX 3.5 hasn't happened as yet.

It's 5.05pm and I'm just starting to come together, so maybe later.... and hopefully then I can try out this u-beaut theme.

:)

Starkers, disconnect from the internet (disables the weather error), open DX in builder mode, right click the systray icon, choose "list objects". Find and delete any and all weather parts. Save the desktop sans weather.

Do this with each theme you want to keep. Then reconnect the internet. No more error.

Then go download every weather widget in my gallery....they all work...thanks to sViz!

Need more help, holler.

Thanks for the heads up on those ideas, Jim, I'll do that when I get to sorting through the themes.  There's a few from way back when that I'd like to keep, so that's the go from here on in.   As for your themes and weather widgets, I'll stop by your gallery over the next week or so and check out what's needed.  Like I said earlier, DX hasn't had as much use as it could have in recent times, so there's a few that I wouldn't have gotten when you released them.

As for DX itself, well so far so good... fingers crossed it stays that way. Did a clean install of 3.5, so it should if I don't mess with updating it to 4.0.

BTW, Hang in There is lookin' n' workin' mighty fine. :sun:
