BootSkin and SP2 notice

http://www.bootskin.com

Just a head's up that our testing of BootSkin and Windows XP SP2 shows that there is an odd problem.  After installing SP2, the first reboot afterwards may cause a blue screen (or other bad behavior). The second reboot seems to clear it up.  We are looking into what is causing this. It's harmless but if you're not prepared for it it is kind of scary.  We are looking into solutions but obviously many people won't necessarily have that download then.

BootSkin is a freeware program that enables you to change your Windows boot screen that works on Windows 2000, Windows XP and even the Longhorn beta. It is the ONLY program that changes your boot screen without patching the actual Windows kernel (if you've patched your kernel with one of the other programs you may need to restore to the default XP kernel prior to installing SP2 to be safe).

There are some systems that BootSkin doesn't work on.  If you can email me at [email protected] I would love to work with you on this.  The problem we're having is that we can't find systems to reproduce that problem. If we could, then we could fix it.

Are some of the compatability problems from 1.05 going to be solved in the next release? I have to run 1.03 right now. I'm pretty sure the newest driver for my monitor is the problem, because I'm pretty sure I didn't have any problems until I installed it. The monitor is a Viewsonic P75f+.

Frogboy could you please inform me on where I could obtain the Longhorn Beta?

There's no beta of Longhorn out yet. It's been delayed until 2005, because of XP SP2. There have only been released alpha versions. The first was the PDC release and the second was at WinHEC build 4074. I've read there have only been 8 builds since that release because of the work being made on SP2. So you're gonna have to wait.

On my system which is currently running XP Home SP2 RC1, I had alot of blue screen problems with all of the newer Bootskin Builds. However, I am currently using Bootskin v1.01, and it is working perfectly.

Oh man, I am right now downloading and installing SP2. I guess I will give it a try and see how my lap top responds to Sp2 and bootskin. I too never want to see the default bootskin. Sure hope we can get this resolved.

I thought I would update all of you with the SP2 RC2 installation and Bootskin program. Before installing SP2 I changed the bootskin to the windows default. After installation and 2 reboots I re activated bootskin by choosing a bootskin theme and I want to report everything seems to work here

one thing I noticed in SP2 is that the default bootscreen is different. It's missing the word Professional after Windows XP, and there's no longer a copyright notice at the bottom. At least I think there was a copyright notice on the SP1 version, I don't really remember. you guys at stardock might want to look into that. It might be what's causing the blue screen.
