 I would like the dock to be activated by a key press and not by the mouse, can this be done?

Is there any api that I can make use of or prehaps a command line argument, windows message?

I noticed that a tabbed dock has no window which means I cant use any of the normal methods.

Not through ObjectDock itself. Just off the top of my head, you could write a script that opens and closes ObjectDock (based on which command line argument it receives) that you could call with Keyboard Launchpad:
