Firebird becomes FireFox

http://www.mozilla.org
Mozilla have announced the release of their new name for their next generation web browser Firebird.
Firefox is the new name chosen by Mozilla as it is "similar to Firebird. It's easy to remember. It sounds good. It's unique. We like it".
The name change comes from a legal issue regarding the use of firebird by another open source project that already holds rights to the name, and Mozilla felt the change would stop any confusion before it has began.

joeyjoejoe1000, tell us why.

Jairo is going to have to come up with a new icon again to replace his perfect 10 Firebird icon.

I'll need to get use to the name, going to be strange not calling it Firebird.

However definately seem's good, nighties were pretty good aswell.

New icon almost reminds me of Tails, from Sonic The Hedgehog.

Also a dock icon for download. http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=139696&st=0

The icon is tight though, but I don't like the installer. I don't like installers in general. Unfortunately they've seen to have dropped .zip releases.

Ah well.

downloading now. wish they didn't keep changing its name though.

I can't get it to work. first it gave me an error saying that some bindings were off and the window wouldn't open. now it starts, but the window doesn't show up. you can see the process in the task manager though.

any ideas?

Quote probably won't work on news item but ...

Jairo is going to have to come up with a new icon again to replace his perfect 10 Firebird icon.

Not that this is a big deal, and I'm probably the only one who cares, but I just with they would've credited Jairo for some inspiration for this icon. I know it's not identical, but c'mon, we all know where the concept came from.

But should I care, it is just a browser after all .....

just because firefox looks cleaner, is faster, runs smoothly and stops those damned pop-ups. I can't believe I didnt ditch ie sooner.

you using the default profile Travis?
They do recommend creating a new profile when installed and nuke the old installation, just mind and keep your bookmarks or skins if you have any.

joeyjoejoe1000, I mis-read your first post, I thought you said you would never use IT again. I thought you were refering to FireFox. Then I quoted you with the same thing (IE), but I was lazy and used cut & paste, so still didn't notice that you said IE.

Now I understand what you were saying.

Guess I need to get my eyes fixed.

If you can't get the download from the Mozilla server, you can get the official Win32 version from TripleHelix.info at http://download.triplehelix.info/FireFox_0-8/

People from WinCustomize are welcome to download it from that address (I'm hosting it) but please do not share the link as I only have enough bandwidth reserved for it for 7,000 downloads and this isn't the only place I have posted the link.

To address a concern that I received via email, Firefox does not affect Incredimail in any way shape or form.

I would have to give the edge to Avant browser as well
