Cheats / Trainers / Mods Just build, destroy and conquer!

Is it so hard just to put them in the game?

Why is it that Developers just haven't put cheats into the game?  Is it really that hard to do for the single player version?  I don't understand why cheats would not be available?  Even the highet played games out there have cheats for their single player side.  Myself, along with I would say thousands and thousands of other players, would like to play the game our way instead of being forced to play the long draw out game play that the game requires.  We all know what I am referring to: mega cystles, credits, metal, tactical points, logistic points, ships hulls, ships shields, instant research etc....etc....etc....  There are times when a player wants to play this game without waiting for all the upgrades and research to finish.  Just build, destroy and conquer!  I know some will say that that is not what the game was designed for but I am the consumer and that's what I would like.  I have played this game for hours and hours and hours at a time and it was fun but now I am really bored with it and would like to play the game my way.  Yes I know there is a trainer out there, that will do what I am asking, but you will have to pay for a $30 year membership first.  I have spent days looking and running trainers an none of them work on the latest version of this game.......none.  I know some will say if you don't want to play the game right then don't play the game and yes that's what it is coming to.  I really love this game but I am bored and tired of playing it one way.  Some days I have limited time and would love to just go in and run any map at any level and just build, destroy and conquer!  ADD YOUR NAME TO THIS POST IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE CHEATS PUT IN.

They have made that. Its called the developer.exe. It can do everything you want, so quit bashing Iron Clad.

I just want it to be known that I am NOT adding my name to this thread, just seconding GoaFan. Use the dev.exe and stop bashing IC for not putting in a very trivial feature.

agree with the both of them

use of the dev.exe tool helps just fine for that

Well, so far it looks like 3 for NO's,  - add me to that list of No

Learn the hard way, lose some games - or just watch some replays.

Yeah, no point in 'cheats' You can mod the game by converting the bin files into txt. Look for Harpo's tools on the forums.

And if your lazy then use the Dev.exe.

Almost had something snarky to say... Almost.

I have to side with the nos in this. If you want to cheat either download a trainer or make the changes yourself. The devs did helpfully make the game exceptionally easy to alter to your own requirements.

at any rate, chalk one more up for the no's.  If you want to play your way, mod the game.  Yeah, it takes more effort than using cheats, but it is more fun and more rewarding.  Cheat codes are stupid, period. zip.  They ruin gameplay for an individual.  For instance, I no longer play the Age of Empires III because I know the cheats by heart.  I know that if I play that game, I will come to a slow part and then proceed to use them making my victory in the end seem empty.  Games are best left without cheat codes.  Cheat codes are exactly that, codes that allow you to cheat.  Cheating is to break the rules of a game, and thereby decrease the enjoyment received by victory (unless you are some sort of deranged sociopath, but even most of them hate cheating).

In other words, I am giving a adamant no to this proposal.

Just a word to all that replied, I didn't ask for your approvals and it doesn't really matter what 8 SOASE fanatic players think. As always I hear from the selfish SOASE snob group that misses the point once again, and it seems like always, never listen to what is being said.  I am sure that 8 SOASE fanatic players opinions don't make up the whole player base opinion. This was more a question to the developers.  The point was that a player should not have to open a dev version or a mod of the game just to activate a cheat.  Occasionally, after a long day of work, a player just wants to relax and just kick butt without the time consuming effort of hours of waiting for the dev trees to finish.  I am sure one or two of you hard working developers can relate to that.....  Those of us with occasional limited time wanting to just "have fun" for an hour or two without going through all the motions of a full game.  It would be very nice to be able to have the option to play the game, that we as some players would like, without having to run a dev. program or a trainer or modifying files or having to pay for the latest trainer. Even when providing cheats it would still not change anything for those "die-hard" players who would like to play the game without modification.

If you want to talk to the developers...  IC isn't around much anymore.  You might get a moderator from Stardock or something, but that is about as close as you are going to get.

And we aren't some snob group.  Ryat and Carbon are both greatly respected members with Kyogre and Goa not that far behind.  We've been around for a while and have seen what is good and not so much for this game.  Cheats would be bad overall.  Its not selfish to want what's best for the community as a whole.  If anyone is being selfish here, it is you I am afraid, not us...

The developer.exe is too hard for you? All you have to do is click on a different .exe than the normal Sins one. It does everything cheats would do for you and more. But if that's too hard to do, I can't imagine adding cheats would help, because they would require extra clicks to enable, and maybe even typing, so I don't know how you would be able to handle that.

And yes, now I am being a snob, because a very simple solution was offered to you in the first post, but that is apparently too hard for you.

In Wolf's defense, he probably doesn't know what dev.exe does, so...

Developer.exe is a program you can download that allows you to instantly do anything you want to a program.  If you want to play God in sins, this is how you do it.  You can effectively perform anything you want.  Think of it as giving you the ability to cheat, but without cheat codes themselves...  The reason is so that you can quickly open up a mod and rush to the part you want to test to see if that new ability actually works or causes a crash.

another no.

thats 100% return rate there so far buddy.

ya, use dev.exe. narb.

cheatcodes honestly ruin the game for me... if a game has cheatcodes... and i use them.. its fun for a few hours... but any replayabily of the game just dies.  after those few hours, its on the shelf gathering dust.

I have to agree with yall on all of that. Wouldn't really want to cheat. But I don't think dev.exe is a complete solution to his problem. I could be wrong. But whenever I try to mod my game using dev.exe (doesn't matter if it's the one for sins, entrenchment, or diplomacy) it always crashes and I'm assuming it's because I'm running trinity and not the others.

And whenever you add resources or credits using dev does it not supply the same additions to the enemy teams also? If so, this isn't really a cheat. It's more like a way to give the entire universe a little more freedom lol Or is there a way to give resources to a specific team/race/species???

Does it really matter if the other team gets resources when you can spawn any ship in the game (just for your side), destroy anything you can click on, give yourself any planet you can see and then instantly get all of the upgrades for it, give your capital ship free levels etc. Honestly I rarely use the resource cheats except to build planetary structures.

Trinity should not have any effect on the developer.exe. I do not know why it would not work for you.

I applaud all above and Ironcland NOT to put cheats in game.

If you really want to have cheats you can make a mod of the game where all research costs 0 research time is 0. Same can be done for ships and buildings. But i wonder how would it be to play against ai with this mod.

Isn't it also the same that instead giving yourself more to give others less. Go play easy against AI. They get handicapped.

Multi player??? AGAIN I APPLAUD IRONCLAND NOT TO MAKE CHEATS AVAILABLE.

@ GoaFan77

Are you running Trinity? Probably not, because you would know that it gives nothing but dumps if you use it. Trust me when you install the game, there is a .exe for sins, entrenchment, diplomacy, and TRINITY separately. It does make a difference. Trying to do many of the features of dev will crash it. And why would anyone want to destroy ships by clicking on them? This isn't wack-a-mole dude lol If you think that's what the guy that wants to use a trainer is all about, then no wonder you are so angry cause that would just be stupid... And you didn't answer my question

Trinity and Diplomacy are effectively the same minus a few graphics.  I'm assuming the issue is with a corrupt dll or something.  That's what it used to be for me.  Eventually I got it taken care of and it works now.

hmmm he may have a point here

after all he could be a 31 year old man with a wife and two kids and a job that takes up 60 to 70 hours of his week plus the need for a proper nights sleep as well as a house to maintain and other community projects that also make demands on his time

and us fanboys are nothing more than a group of 19 year old bums that have no jobs and/or lives beyond the game

I am not angry, I was just assuming the guy did not do his homework and had no idea the dev.exe existed. If he has trinity, tried it and it didn't work then I would agree with him, but the answer is to get the devs to make a developer.exe that works for trinity.

The point I was trying to make is that the resource cheats (yes they give them to all players) are really not that useful compared to all the other features. So what they get extra resources, if they build something you don't want them to just instant kill it. Or spawn yourself 16 level 10 Marza's, same effect, just more key pressing.

Also, if all you wanted was a resource hack, just open any map in the galaxy forge, turn of randomized positions and give player 1 9999999999 of each resource. No developer.exe required.
