Version Nostalgia

I was just looking through all the old change logs, its preety amazing how much sins has changed over the years...

for example: there was a time when subverter's distortion field lasted 30 seconds and costed only 100 antimatter. wowzies! or a time where gravity warhead lv 2 could stop a fleet from jumping forever as long as the egg had antimatter.

there was a time when you could not turn pirates off!

and a time where (in single player obviously) you could not change the game speed with the - and + keys!

guidance was even more sucky than it is now.

Returning armada was rediculously good. (was free!)

mines used to be free

phase jump inhibiters used to only slow by 250% instead of 700%

carriers cruisers used to only hold a single squad.

skirantra's scramble bombers was buffed at least 3 times. (and clearly one time too many)

illums used to be wacko... and have changed alot over time.

and this doesnt include the betas!

I could just go on and on about the amazing changes that have gone on with sins, and i wanted to thank the devs for making the game as good as it is now...

but it does leave me with a little nostalgia with how sins used to be, and makes kinda itch to play with the old versions a bit, expecially with the diplomacy and entrenchment stuff thrown in. (i wonder if you could make a version xxx mod...)

anyways, any thoughts about the history of sins? i mean, its been a long history, alot longer than most games, and i dont think its quite over yet. (considering we still have a few bugs, like trade income from starbases at stars)

Sins has at least a couple of patches left coming.  I'm still hoping we'll see masterpieces like the 1.18 patch that really reinvigorate the game.

Although it's somewhat incomplete, the Wiki is probably the best resource for those who wish to casually browse the change logs:

Every now and then I play a regular Sins game where the host does not have the ability to set it to Quickstart (or simply doesn't click it on), and I think to myself: Wow!  It used to be this slow?  This is how we used to play it 2 years ago?

haha!  No kidding, game used to crawl, and I couldn't ever figure out how I was getting rushed so hard before I realized how to capture a roid with a lone colonizer :)

Ahh... to think of the days when Guardians could use Repulse and move at the same time... and Malice had uncapped targets... good times...

Asteroids used to be able to have 4 resource asteroids. Pirates were used as free cap ship experience. You're right, this game sure has changed a lot.

ya... there was a time where you could set the galaxy to have high/med or low resoruces... in other words... no more 2 rock vocl/ice worlds! and more imporantly... no more you getting a 2 rock roid and a empty plasma storm, and your enemy a 3 rock roid, and a plasma storm with 3 rocks.

thats kinda the issue with the random maps... (and even "balanced" maps)... sometimes your half just sucks/rocks compared to the enemies half... and that has ruined many games for me.
