ObjectDock 1.0 Release Candidate

ObjectDock 1.0 Release Candidate

ObjectDock 1.0 release candidate is now available for download at www.objectdock.com.

ObjectDock is a freeware program launcher / task manager that does its job with style. It's completely skinnable, can have tasks and programs be represented by .PNG files or icons, and has a host of special effects to make it look and feel like any kind of dock one might want to have on their system.

New in this release candidate:
  • Issue with icons temporarially disapparing and/or stopping updating (e.g. clocks) after changing screen resolutions or coming out of hibernation fixed
  • Settings are now saved whenever the config dialog is closed, rather than on exit only.
  • Mouse activation:
  • When in "normal z-order" mode, will bring to front when mouse moves into activation area and leave there until another window is activated
  • When in "bottom" mode, will bring to front when mouse moves into activation area, and will put the dock back on bottom when the dock leaves the dock's area.
  • Resizable Icon Chooser dialog (remembers its size as well)
  • Added text to clerify how to remove docklets
  • Updated Weather plugin to use Weather.com's feed, and added ability to switch to metric units.
  • Fix issue with folders as shortcuts not properly launching
  • Run-visibility option added for shortcuts (run minimized, maximized, etc)
  • Improved clock to have thicker hands
  • Option to add your own separators added
  • Fixed a large number of additional little glitches found from postings on the messageboards, thanks to tips from testers

Frogboy, why do you advertize somthing and not make it available?

Bigger hands (how about configurable ones?) on the clock are nice, but it would be better if they'd start moving again. My clock gets only updated when I open the config box.
For everybody who needs the know about the weather in 'the rest of the world' (it may come as a surprise to some, but amazingly there's much more 'rest of the world' than 'God's own country') : use Judge's XML Weather applet.

In my install the "animation" effects when you click on the dock icons dosn't work. The rest of it is awesome.

A-ha...the animation effects only work in the GDI+ engine. In the custom engine they do not work.

Hey ShadowKnight, didn't apple shut down Y'z dock? I too would like to see a performance increase. I've tried all sorts of settings and can't seem to get much more than a mediocre performance. My specs are:

MSI K7N2 Ultra mobo (nForce 400 FSB clocked down to 333 due to DDR)
Athlon XP 2600+ (2.08GHz)
1 GB Kingston PC2700 DDR
Sapphire Radeon 9500 soft mod to 9700

And I still get just a mediocre performance. Now, do get me wrong, I love the dock and I, like many others, am growing a dependence on it. But it just seems like it should be a bit smoother. Let me know if there is just a performance tweak that I'm missing...

Keep up the great work!

This sucks, I get an error message everytime I right click to add something or hit the configure OD box. Old version worked fine for me.... Anyoen know why, do I need yz dock installed also, and where is a DL link for that?

Works exactly as it did before, slightly jerky but functional.(only have a 1 gig proc)

Works perfect to me

ARGH! The old one worked so much better for me. This one is waaaay too jerky when hiding and showing the dock. I especially noticed one problem which is highly annoying. I have the water background/foreground. The background seems to move first before the foreground so you see a gap between the back and foreground as the dock shows. Kinda screws up the whole experience...

I see this release as a step backwards rather than forwards...

Hmmm... I don't notice much difference. In the old version I had it set up to use the .lnk files in my Quick Launch folder to open my folder shortcuts, and now they don't work. Supposedly this version was supposed to "fix [the] issue with folders as shortcuts not properly launching" but I can't seem to figure out how to configure this feature. Other than that I like the dock a lot. I'd like to see a "strech" option that would allow it to be displayed across the entire area that it's on instead of just centered though. Rock on Stardock! Love your stuff!

Hmmm seems wierd, some recommended that I make sure I had no spyware, so I got rid of the few I had on a new Adaware scan, I reinstalled and now it works... Not sure if thats why, but it works now, I occosianally still get a Not responding message and it closes, but I am running a 1.6 GHz and 640 MB of ram, so I doubt its my pc...

Great job. but how about doing something like WeatherWatcher where you type in a city code and it updates the weather for any city/Country you're living in (like Toronto). it also uses weather.com to update, it wouldn't be that hard to implement would it?
