Microsoft Professional Developer Conference: Update #1

Microsoft's big developer conference began today. Stardock is there to hear about the latest news coming from the conference.

The highlights so far:

  • Microsoft is calling their next API WinFX (yea, we're not terribly happy about that). There's Win16, Win32, and now WinFX.
  • The new version of Windows has a new UI called "Aero". The most visible part of it is "Sidebar". If you want something like that today, download DesktopX 2 http://www.desktopx.net which includes a Longhorn sidebar object.
  • Avalon is being demoed last time we checked in.

More coming...

Did they show any screenshots of Aero? I'm curious as to what it looks like. The VS in the screenshot is called Slate and I think it's the ugliest thing MS has come up with since Win31. by the way, the dx link is messed up.

i think the new ms ui looks better than xp's green and blue.. but still.. winfx.. man cant they be more creative and.. well i hate to say it but bring on the Aero skins

Slate is not Aero. I don't think anyone has seen Aero, or at least no screenshots have shown up. I think Slate is better than Plex since it moves away from everything being blue, but it is rather dull even so.

Hmm I think this 'Slate' theme is way better than what the 'Plex' Style was. Plex really just wasn't nice to look at for more than 10 minutes on my PC. I could actually work with the Slate theme - its not to harch on my eyes
