DesktopX 2 (Beta 1.98) now available on Object Desktop

If you have Object Desktop, you can now download DesktopX 2 beta (v1.98) from Stardock Central (http://www.sdcentral.net).

If you don't have Object Desktop, its home page is http://www.objectdesktop.com.

Version 1.98 has a host of fixes and enhancements as we move towards version 2.0. It also includes some really cool objects such an Amazon.com object, a really cool weather object, a stock ticker object, another fish object, and much more.

Just like when WB 4.1 came out. It's not in my Stardock Central or Component Manager. This is really !@#$%^&*( me off. >

Hippie, it's in Stardock Central. But it's indeed not in Component Manager, dunno why. Maybe Stardock slowly starting to phase out CM.
No maybe about it, Component Manager is being phased out.

Hippie, make sure you are using Stardock Central and make sure you have "show betas" on in settings. It's OFF by default.

I've got show betas, it shows todays date, but no update, and it showing 1.96.

In order to view prelease version in Stardock Central you must:
1. Select VIEW
2. Check "SHOW PRE-RELEASE VERSIONS"

Chill out!

I'd like to "upgrade" my Component Manager to the current Stardock Central...how do I go about obtaining SC? And...do I need to first uninstall or delete the component manager?

Can't get DesktopX to work at all with 2K3... just errors out. This is the 4th version thats done this.

Frogboy: Is it meant to work?
Does it work with Win ME at 450Mhz?

If not, do you have a spare computer laying around the shop I could have?
No idea if it works on Server 2K3. We haven't tested it on that.

To get Stardock Central go to http://www.sdcentral.net (www.sdentral.net) and get it there.

I just tried it out. My first experience with DesktopX. Pretty cool. I have a coupla questions, though:

1. I just want to add some objects to my desktop without using a theme. How do I do that?

2. The weather object is very cool, but I don't care about the weather for Livonia, MI. How do I change the location?

Overall, very excellent, though

I have component manager and the new DesktopX is not showing there in the updates. i like component manager beter than sdcentral. Why is stardock not allowing it to show in component manager? i pay for it why is this happening?
spertus, for the weather object, right click on the text "Livonia, MI" (it should be yellow when you right click it), go to properties, go to the "States" tab, click "add", choose "Command Executed", click OK, then click OK on the object's screen. Then all ya have to do is click the yellow text and a box will pop up asking for your zip. Hope that works for ya!

RoodVargas don't use CM use Stardock Central you can find it here https://www.stardock.com/products/sdcentral/
hope thats helps

Oil: Object Desktop isn't free. Only Object Desktop users have access to the beta of DesktopX 2.

Spertus: Just click on the city and it'll bring up a dialog to let you enter in a different area code.

You can import objects by right clicking on the DesktopX icon on the system tray and choose "import" objects.

Rood: Stardock Central is replacing Component Manager. I can't imagine how anyone would like CM better. CM requires that you download the full thing every time and run an install. Stardock Central only updates what is new saving a lot of time. Plus it has a lot more features, easier to archive older builds, etc.

What's creek?
creek is another name for crack (drugs) - I thought it would sound nicer since this is a "family" website.

Hi bipp5, Thanks for the advice on changeing the zip code. It worked but it wont except my zip code..? Any other ideas? you seem to be pretty good with this thing.

Thanks again Frogboy. It just keeps getting better and better.

I'm looking for a tutorial on using the scripting, if anyone could direct me to one I'd appreciate it.

There seems to be a bug in this build of DesktopX, you're supposed to be able to just click on the cty and a dialog box pops up asking you to enter another one. We're looking into it. It worked in 1.98B.

Very nice! And you know what? I can run this with all the fishies swiming around on my old Celeron 333 at home without any performance hit at all! I'm impressed!

Hey, Brad: the weather object looks nice, but it would be nice if it worked for us non-US peeps.
