Hi everyone.
Something i noticed about Diplomacy that really, really, really, (and i mean really) bothers me is that it seems like the chance for certian planets to show up though the random generator is broken. To illustrate what i am trying to convey i will compare my experience with vanilla sins to diplomacy.
In Vanilla Sins there seemed to be an equal % chance for any given gravity well to have any given planet when you randomly generated a solar system. What this ultimately meant was that if you randomly generate a solar system it would have an equal distribution of asteroids, Terran worlds, desert worlds, volcanic worlds, and ice worlds. This was ince and led to an exciting variety of planets. Additionally it meant that all three races had an equal chance of getting worlds which benefited them based on their specialty.
In Diplomacy on the other hand it seems that there is a grossly disproportionate chance for Volcanic and Ice worlds to spawn, especially volcanic worlds. It is an extremely common occurrence for me to find myself paying on a map in which, of the 20 or so non home world gravity wells, 10-15 are volcanic with at least 5 Ice worlds. Finding a Terran or desert planet on maps in diplomacy seems like a 1 in 20 occurrence. In fact i just quit a game in which the only colonization, non-home world/starting asteroid, gravity wells were volcanic worlds.
At first I thought this was bad luck, or maybe simply my perception. unfortunately after making, and quickly abandoning, around 50 maps i have come to the conclusion that there really is an actual difference. This conclusion was only reinforced when i tried a random map on vanilla sins and found a nice even distribution on my first attempt.
I don't know why this would have been changed, it could only seem to unbalance the game to me considering if what i am noticing is true it greatly favors the Vasari. The fact of the matter is that this change runis the game for me. It makes the maps boring and unexciting. This combined with the fact that i have to turn off the pirates, because they are grossly overtuned, leaves the game bland eliminating the organic feeling of the original. It is especially upsetting when one considers the many excellent features that diplomacy added to the game.
I hope i am not the only one to have this issue. I also hope that a fix is planned for this.
