The Recruit uses DesktopX,, WindowBlinds and CursorXP

The Recruit, starring Al Pacino and Colin Farrell opens today and uses DesktopX, WindowBlinds and CursorXP during the movie for their computer interface effects.

The DesktopX theme was based off a very well known one, so if you see the movie, you may be able to tell which one it is.

You can get DesktopX here: http://www.desktopx.net and CursorXP here: http://www.cursorxp.com

And you can get WindowBlinds at http://www.windowblinds.net

Nice, though it would have been neat to see a video still or screenshots of the themes that were in use. If you can't display the images (for legal reasons), could you atleast tell us which themes they used? I'll probably wait for The Recruit to come out on DVD, unless my girlfriend wants to see it. :O

I'm curious as to how this all came about. Who decided that they wanted to have a customized desktop for the movie? Did they browse various screenies for a look they liked?

Well. Koop has really said it all but I feel that I have to add the following:

The concept and design of the whole thredz look belongs to Thredz (Neil Allardice) and Dangeruss (Russ Schwenkler). The wallpaper is by Tech13 (Michael Bodine II).

Huge thanks to them for allowing me to push their pixels around for the DesktopX theme.

Icons used in the DesktopX theme were by the icon master Mormegil (Paul Boyer).

Pop along to these websites to see what else these talented people have done:

Tech13, Thredz:

Dangeruss

Mormegil:

One last thing, Dangeruss dropped hints a short while ago that an updated Thredz skin with XP features is being worked on. This will (hopefully) be released soon so watch this space.

Stardock is the mixer that the Skinners use to Rock !

This is really cool, to see this use of DesktopX and such. People will be wondering about those screens be cool if they do a plug on the Movies web site

Very nice. Beat me to the punch. I was wondering when this would happen. I thought it would take longer; like 2004. (when the entertainment/music industry would take this skinning thing on)

yay! i went and saw the movie tonight and saw my wallpaper and the desktop x theme in the movie .. it was only in it for a second but its still cool to see all us little guys artwork in a kickass movie with al pacino. This has been a long time coming and I was asked for permission I think over a year ago. Thanks to everyone who contributed to the theme. BTW.. its near the beginning of the movie where colin's character goes to meet the dell computer guy... and no im not talking about the "dude you're gettin a dell" guy hehehe

c242 couldn't have said it better!
This was a community project, involving many people.
Some of the biggest names in the skinning community gave unstintingly of their time to make this happen.
Thanks to them all.

As I said many times before, too bad Tech13 and Thredz retired from skinning.

I haven't been able to download these items from the website, has anyone else been able to..

very cool

guess they found out it´s much easier that way than programming some UNIX interfaces as they did in the past.

have to add LiteStep was first in the movies: http://www.shellscape.org/default.scape?st=183

oh, and FOX network has ripped [morph]´s [noir] litestep theme for their "24" show. it´s a rip because they did not show a screenshot of the theme running, but did an ugly cut and paste job.

(that´s actually the most nasty rip that has ever happened so far)

BTW, The Recruit was the number 1 movie at the box office this weekend, with ticket sales of $16.5 million.

I will see what I can do about getting updated links.

Al Pacino! One of my all time favorite actors! And a handsome Italian to boot.

#1 at the box office? Yeah!

The Thredz Winstyles has been posted by V_F (thanks, Voo!) and the Thredz for Sysmetrix theme added by c242.
Both look great, IMHO.

It's great to see the talented work of skinners hit big media. Hats off to all the skinners (big and small) who contributed to this project.

Keep in mind, movie computer interfaces in the past have been nowhere near realistic, it's great to see an ACTUAL interface that we all recognize. (I used to have Threadz on my machine)

Hats off again.
