Finally: It's good!

Finally: It's good!

I'm not a WinCustomize guy, but I've visited the site a few times. I was always turned off by the primitive nature of the old site. It was ugly, outdated, and unintuitive. The new site (beta) is absolutely wonderful. I think it'll go a long way in attracting new users for several reasons:

  • Clean and simple (so important!)
  • Great header (useful mouseovers are always a plus)
  • Better organization of information (news, popular skins, etc.)

Bravo!

no offense in this, but the only positive comments beside the original post are those from staff. kind of, just a little bit possibly that those opinions are not completely unbiased. and using statements of "I remember when" doesn't necessarily make these changes for the better for the users. I can think of a many changes in my lifetime that were not for the better.

having sniveled, I like many others will get used to the changes when we are forced to do so. it is said that the site is not in it's final form, one can hope that when I have to switch that I will be pleasantly surprised, but I won't hold my breath.

In all fairness that very wll may happen. One can hope!

And it's NOT about so much change as some keep saying...it's more about functionality!  I have to agree with some here that the functionality has been going backwards.

I dunno, Fuzzy. I've clicked that [download] several times and nothing happens. XD

Except the DesktopX library is buried so deep a proctologist was called in and we haven't seen him since.....

Took two clicks to find and be in the DX gallery.

And you must run a search to find your own gallery.

There will be ways to get to your own gallery, we just haven't implemented them yet.

That's one more than now. And just how is that an improvement ?

I'm still using the old site, the only thing I like about the new site is the larger thumbnails.

How can 18 thumbnails on a page versus 100 be an improvement? It seems nothing is visible, settings are never remembered so you have to reset them everytime and there is far too much clicking.

The design is not so drastically different to warrant the aggravation!

how many clicks is it to find the rightclick gallery on the new site?. I couldn't find it anywhere except through my personal page. Hopefully i am wrong.

The problem is, when you click that explore button, and you get that dropdown box, it only has the stardock apps in it, and I doubt the average visitor will click that "customize" word at the bottom and add all the other categories........ It took ME three visits before I noticed it. B[]

And I can't find half the stuff I normally look at.XO

Ah, so 'staff' are not entitled to opinions?....even when they have been here longer than anyone and thus are totally aware of the site's history....AND of its short-comings past. present and future?

When I say "I remember when skinz.org wasn't brown" Wincustomize.com rose from the 'ashes' of skinz.org.  The latter was quite famous for being brown but even that wasn't its first iteration.

If 38 years of Architecture has taught me one thing it's people have a pathological hatred towards change and are willing to fight such all the way to the Appeals Tribunals and for no better reason than because whatever the development is it is going to be DIFFERENT and 'we' can't have that.

The reality is....change indicates vitality and life, whereas the Status Quo is just a bunch of old blokes with long hair...;)

Please don't presume that a comment from 'staff' is a 'paid political broadcast' as it is demeaning to those who care about [and for] this Community the most...;)

It's just pointless complaining and pointing out the obviously bad changes. v_v

I'm obviously not the only person that thinks the new WC site could be better for various reasons. Navigation does seem to be the most prominent concern and one which I agree with. You flexing and huffing isn't going to change that.

maybe it's differenct at WC but it has been my business experience that those employees that publically rag on their employer's product usually end up unemployed. I didn't mean that either of you were tottie boys and if that came off like that, I apologize. I think very highly of all of you.

but now my SD is up, and I'm wondering if there wasn't some hidden purpose in the OP? }:)

Yes, it's different.  Don't confuse positive opinion with fawning acquiescence....;)

Are we ALL really THAT old?

I remember my very first PC. It was right after XP came out. I was scared out of my mind because every where I went, folks were saying what a nightmare XP was and how they would never give up Win2000. I thought I had just bought something that was destined to die on me very fast because the OS was so terrible.

Now I have Vista on one PC, 7 on another , and still have XP on the laptop.

Just out of curiosity.....How many of those opposed to the new site have caught themselves saying 'What the hell is that noise?' to something someone else had on the radio? Or 'Turn that shit down?' to their kids. Or "That's NOT music. I'll tell you what REAL rock is..."

Change is constant. So is the ability for all people to eventually become their parents...and settled in their ways.

I f***ing hate the new site, by the way. But I realize when there is only one flavor of Kool-Aid to drink, Imma gonna drink it when I get thirsty.

Yeah, and I had nothing to do with its disappearance.  though I do recall seeing somewhere that that was attributed to me.

Well to set the record straight... sod off, it wasn't me.  As I recall, when I was invited to dinner, and Anne cooked my favourite, curried cabbage, you made me eat out back with the dog... nowhere near yer preshus silverware.  No!!  All I got was a bowl on the back patio... and a wooden spoon to eat with.

And another thing I thought was cruel, was when I couldn't hold onto one any longer and the dog was yelping and scratching at the back door, and you wouldn't let him in.  Man's best friend, eh??

:-" ;) :P

That's pretty much it, isn't it.  It's pretty much like the only pub in town, and you hate the decor.... if you wanna beer badly enough, you'll sit in it.

All I have to say to that is: "I'm Glad somebody covered my arse... cos obviously I didn't.

As a kid, my mother always had an appropriate saying for various circumstances: "Don't speak with your mouth full." "Use a handkerchief when you sneeze." "Cover your mouth with your hand when you cough.".... but she never had one that quite covered the momentus curried cabbage bark..

Hehe.
