ObjectDock 0.85

http://www.objectdock.com
A new version of ObjectDock is available. ObjectDock is a program that combines a task manager and program launcher together -- but with a lot of style. It's similar to the dock on MacOS X.

New in 0.85:

- Much less memory used by default
- Can now set the dock to be either always on top, always on bottom, or normal (Z-order).
- New magnification mode options available.

It's available at www.objectdock.com.

ObjectDock is freeware.

Still find "My Computer" not working well. Also, when I launch "command prompt" (a shortcut to cmd.exe) from OD, there is always NO icon showing at task bar area. I have to quit OD and re-launch then I can see the "command prompt" icon.

Meanwhile, it always bothers me on how I can have two separted icons for Netscape (browser and mail features) if using OD icon to replace the original ones (Netscape 7.X has different icons for browser and mail).

The magnification appears to be even smoother in this release - amazing!

The new magnification style works great with my crappy laptop graphics card...and this version is more stable so far. I would still like to see a way to pop the real start menu in WinXP...

hmm... I've been using ObjectBock since it was first released, and I love it!

But for some reason... this last update will not show up when I run it

It's shows up in the windows task manager... but it's not showing up on the desktop... btw I'm using windows XP pro and running ObjectBar and LiteStep.

I'm going to try to install it again and see if there was anything wrong...

Icons are randomly visible and invisible. Also, My Computer still seems to be broken. I'm sure these are minor issues. Keep up the good work!

Everything works great on my box.

Its a little slower compared to the previous version, I messed around with almost every setting, when U move the cursor, the maginification of the icons is accompained by jerks, all in all, the new features added are awesome.

Thanks for the new release

Is there a problem with overlays in this version? Whenever I switch to a bar with an overlay it freezes on me. (or is it just me?)

I have the same problem as JamesT. Goku Grass and Foreground example cause ObjectDock to freeze.

I wish OD would have a "theme" option where you could import and export say a .odx file that had pngs for the bg and the app icons and their commands/settings inside. This way I could change all the icons at one shot to match my desktop instead of changing them all one by one.

Seems much slower compared to 0.7, which I used until now, even on a power-machine.

imtoomuch: you might want to give DockTheme a try - it's a beta, but it does let you save your icon settings and dock layouts to a theme and restore any theme at any time... however, it saves your entire dock setup, so if you make a change to the layout, or any OD settings, you have to re-save your theme often otherwise you'll lose the settings whenever you restore another theme

How about including an option to add drop shadows to the icons? Just a thought.

OK, I finally figured out what was wrong... anytime I loaded a background with a foreground, it crashes.
It doesn't happen with other BGs, though.

I like this release, though they should do some revisions on the magnification engine, don't get me wrong, I love it as it is and you guys have been doing an extraordinary job on it as is.

The speed change is very dramatic. but it is kind of jumpy at times.

But all in all, it's great!

I really like the new release. I too am having the foreground problem. Also I would like to make a suggestion to the stardock team. I was thinking it would be cool to somehow build in a kind of sections thing. For instance on the base dock you could have a graphics Icon and when you mouse over it it pops up icons for that section above the bar. Or something like that. That way we could have a large number of icons in a smaller space.

Do you say anywhere whether old version should be removed or new should be installed over old? Also, bad things happened to my XP Pro when I installed (system hung repeatedly, application didn't seem to load). Went back to a restore point with old ver 7.0. No problems with that version, then or now.

I always keep a copy of the old version. You can go back by simply copying the old .exe or hust re-installing. Version 0.7 was the one for me, too. No problems with it.

If you're talking about the WinXP start menu...I don't know if that's possible Simsbro. But you can hit Cntrl+Esc to call it up.

I can't get Folder shortcuts to work... they 'bounce' but that's all.

Someone wrote something about the drop down behaviour above, I was wondering if it can be added, it would be pretty useful, like having cool transparent dropdown menus, with magnification. It would be like a categorized solution for a clean desktop.

Dangeruss : Fill in 'explorer.exe' in 'Link:' and then give it the folder as 'Arguments:'. That should work OK.
