Noob Question

I have been playing small SP maps one star only until my last game. I now have a multistar map and can't get my fleet to travel to the second star. I know I am missing something simple i looked through the manual and it didn't say anything. I tried click on the fleet and moving to a new star system and it just moved in system a little???

Help a Newbie out please

You've got to research the long range jumps tech (might be called something else depending one the faction your playing as, but its always in the civic tree at tier 2 or 3).
