ObjectDock BETA 2 (0.51) now available

https://www.stardock.com/products/objectdock
A new version of ObjectDock is now available. ObjectDock is a program that provides a taskbar and launchbar and does it with style by allowing for very interesting visual effects for mouse overs. It's inspired by the MacOS X dock.

New in this version is a new magnification option for mouse overs (not on by default, go to settings to change it) along with significantly faster performance, slightly less memory usage and several new display options.

The website is www.objectdock.com.

ObjectDock is freeware. Please feel free to post this news elsewhere.

I'm really at a loss as to why every one is so excited about this program; after all it just an animated launch bar. Its pretty; but as far as being useful it does not even begin to compare to a program like PowerPro. If Stardock wants to do something that is more than "eye-candy" why don't they buy the rights to PowerPro incorperate it into ObjectDock and sell it to us. Of course I guess they could respond that eye-candy is there game and they have made millions at it thank-you very much.

No-I am not the author of powerPro nor am I in any way affliated with it other than being a long time PowerPro user.

I don't really mean to rain on anyone's parade - I just don't get why anyone would be thrilled with ObjectDock.

another odd thing that i have noticed with objectdock is that if my screensaver activates and i come back to the computer later then objectdock is no longer running. it just goes bye bye all by itself. this happens both on windows xp and windows 2000 boxes of mine. both are running desktopx so i am not sure if it is limited to running objectdock with desktopx or not.

another thing, speaking of desktopx, is that if i first load desktopx, or objectbar, and then attempt to load objectdock the system freezes up and i have to kill the objectdock process. then unload either of those apps, load objectdock and then load one of those apps in order for things to work properly. this is only on the 2000 box though.

Objectdock is working fine, I did notice the Winamp bug myself, but Im sure that will be fixed very soon. As for features, a start menu (system command) would be nice, maybe some type of icon to show grouped browser windows (ie a number next to the globe to indicate the number of grouped items.) Well thats my take so far, animations are fast, work well and easly resizable. Keep up the great work guys and ladies!!

Running: Windows XP Pro, (w/o SP1)

For some reason, ObjectDock crashes when trying to display some icons. I haven't figured out what's doing it yet. One Mozilla icon I have would crash OD, then, OD would attempt to load when I restarted it and it would crash again. When OD crashes, my taskbar stays gone until I reload and unload OD, which is pretty bad (thank goodness for the start button on the keyboard and ctrl-esc), but doesn't require the total reboot.

Great job though!

I think this is a pretty cool little application but I really wold like to be able to move it to another position on the screen. Hope this comes out in a future version.

Hmmm seems it's more suited to LiteSTEP users....we have our trays handled separately...and I never even see Exploder, so it cannot conflict at all...

Great stuff!!!

Possible Bug: Recycle bin no longer shows "full" status. I did change the default images.

Also is there any way to get the icon files to render sharper when zoomed, or will this rely more on png's?

Lets just hope it stays freeware

WOW.

No, seriously...WOW.

I just spent the last 2 hours making png images to use as icons and playing with ObjectDock. Very cool, and very fast and stable, even on my less-than-stellar 16MB graphics card in my laptop.

And of course I just saw the link to all those great png files. Now I feel like a tool.

Even better Recyle Bug Fix = You can't have too many icons in the sys folder. If you've added a bunch (like I did) delete some. There must be a cache limit.

I add shortcuts to this bar, it awesome by the way! Well on restart all the shortcuts are gone, just wanted to know whats the reason for that.

I love it, and it hasn't given me any problems other than the occasional nameless error that any app will come up with now and then (if I ever find a voodoo3 driver for xp that works...)

I would definitely love to see Objectdock made Iconpackager compatible/aware, be able to dock it elsewhere, and be able to group taskbar entries.

And since Stardock is one of those awesome companies that LISTENS to their users you can bet it'll happen. Just last version we asked for customizable fonts, and got it! WOOHOO!

More eye candy would be great. I like the idea of the text 'dropping' behind Objectdock when focus is lost. How about sending a ripple through the entire dock when an icon is clicked? Or on the more functional side, allowing the user to insert seperators?

That's all toys and fun so far, but here's my big big uber important request: how about a function where apps are removed from the launcher when they're running on the taskbar? It'd have to be a per-shortcut setting of course, since some programs are good for multiple instances, and others only need one...

This should spin off a new program called ObjectIcon. You right-click on a icon and select ObjectIcon and it works like the icons in ObjectDock, only, on your desktop..

Actually... that's what's happening with DesktopX 2. And it's called IconX technology.

Includes shadows and zooming and sound effects and more.

oh yeah one more thing...

for you guys that can't do with out your system try and need the start button still. Just check off auto hide in your task bar properties.

so now i can have my object bar running too to have a complete OSXP feeling

Is there a way to remove a blank spot or a question mark for a shortcut that won't install in object dock. Otherwise I love it, it's very smooth.
