Per the flash from timothy at /. Sunday (missed it the first time through), Blender has gone opensource. If you have a desire to get into 3D graphic design, or just to dabble, even, but don't have a wad of cash just laying around, check this article out.

You might want to know, ahead of time, that the Blender site is pretty swamped right now, although there are two mirrors up at time of posting (not sure how stable they are).

The link to the Blender site itself is http://www.blender.org/

...and since you will probably be wondering how to use this stuff, check here http://www.elysiun.com/tutorials.php for some good info (check out the whole site if you like).

Enjoy!

Great news! Blender was free before, but this don't means that Blender is a limited program.
This is a great and powered program!!
Nan (the Blender vendors) has discontinued the Blender development, and the community has purchased the Blender sources to Nan. It's more great notice that Blender will be continued! And Open Source!
