Can Starbases overlap and stack effects?

If I have two Military bases right next to each other does a ship get a bonus from both?

Or would a planet get the bonus from two+ economic Starbases right next to it?

This part of the game has confused me for years. I would like to think they do NOT stack for play balance purposes.

They *do* stack. You can usually get 8-16 starbases to stack on any given space, and a maximum of 24 to overlap on a single space.
