FAQ says "Multiplayer will be added with an Addon"

Hi guys,

I am an oldschool MMO2 hotseat player, and I stumbled across this game a while ago. The FAQ says, that there will be a multiplayer addon later on.

Anyone know when? Or is it canceled?

Atm I play Space Empires in hotseat, but its just too clumsy and really really slow (even for a 4x game).

There is no real alternative in MOO like hotseat games out there, is there? Would be cool if someone could point me to it, if there is any alternative.

Not in the retail release. However, we are writing it in such a way that we’ll be able to add multiplayer in later if there's demand.

The demand was not enough to justify the cost against new single-player features that would benefit more players. At this point GC2 is mostly "complete", and we have no further major updates planned (Brad will probably want to keep doing small tweaks for some time).

I (and others) were under the impression that GCIII, when it happens, will have multiplayer, due in part if not entirely to [talk of] it being built with the same engine as Elemental.  I haven't seen any evidence to refute that position, but I haven't been paying a lot of attention lately, so a clarification, if possible, would be nice.

But of course, GCIII is still a ways down the road ;)
