Shortcuts To Objectbar?

Hey everybody, 

I need help moving all the shortcuts on my desktop to the objectbar.  I know how you have to just drag and drop, but once i get the shorcut onto the object bar and delete the original one (the one on my desktop), the one on the object bar will no longer open.  Is there any way that i can just have one shortcut on the object bar?
