All ships show out of range

Turn never ends

I am playing dread lords on a win7 64 bit machine.  The game hangs during the AI's part of the turn.  I can scroll, select ships, planets do just about evrything but the turn never ends.  The tab key does not advance to the next ship.  i manually select ships and hit the space bar hoping one is hung but that doesn't resolve the issue.  when i manualy try to direct a ship it tells me they are all out of range and must be set on autopilot.  even ships next to my planets.  I have never seen this behavior before.  this is well into the curent game that i hate to lose.  i went back to a previous save and it worked for a while then the same hang up repeated.  any suggestions?

when you say that the game hangs, do you mean that the 'turn' button is grayed out?

Yes the turn button is greyed out but every other function of the game seems to work with the exception of the TAB key proceeding to the next ship.  It happens during the AI's part of the turn when all of the computers ships are moving.  I even left the computer alone for about 15 minutes and it never finished the turn.

Hey,

That all ships were outta range happened quite often in some of my games. The only solution I had was re-loading the turn, or even more backwards.

Question: Where there any of your ships left who still would've been moved around by the autopilot? If yes, then here´s the reason why the game can´t process anymore - the autopilot would try to move your ships into an area within your range - just with that bug there is no place on the whole map which is actually within range....

I have the exact same problem, it has happened in both games I've started after recently installing the game anew and updating to 2.03. I have played the game and it's expansions now and then ever since it came out, but never seen this before.

And reloading a previous save, whether quicksave or autosaves, hasn't helped, as the bug reappears in the same place over and over, whatever I try to do differently. And once the bug has appeared, it's there also if I reload a previous save which was fine earlier, I have to restart the game to get previous saves to work again. But then of course the bug still reappers on the same round as previously.

Any clues as to a cause and/or a solution?

What happens if you destroy the blocking ships so you can proceed to the next turn?

Since the bug affected all ships once it hit I thought it was a more general thing, but after deleting all ships en route somewhere, freighters included, then pressing end turn, nothing went wrong. I could then reload and proceed as normal, this time without deleting anything, and everything seems ok. Very peculiar, and I thought I'd tried that approach when it happened in my last game with no luck.

Oh well, if that workaround works and it doesn't happen to often...
