saving maps and loading

can't seem to get the game to show my map

I've made a few maps now with the galaxy forge. I've got the current versions of entrenchment and the original sins.

But when I go into the game, it doesn't show the maps for me to play them. I've saved them in the galaxy folder where entrenchment and sins are installed.

So I'm not really sure what's going on. Any help? Am I simply missing something here, or is there some sort of issue with compatibility or anything that I'm not aware of?

Thanks for the help in advance!

ssuming you have sins 1.181/entrenchment 1.041,  the galaxy forge maps NEED to be placed here for xp
C:\Documents and Settings\'user name'\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\GalaxyForge

or here for vista/windows 7
C:\Users\'user name'\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\GalaxyForge.

NOTE the first two folders after the 'user name' are hidden , so to see them you must first click on 'tools' then 'folder options', then 'view', then click on 'show hidden files& folders' then click ok, then you will be able to browse your want to the folder. I suggest when you find the folder that you create a shortcut to it on the desktop

also the galaxy forge maps only show up in the galaxy forge tab of map types

and if a map you want to play was released before 25th feb 2009 then you will also neet the sins map updater from here

Thanks. That seems to have worked. I figured out about modding the manifest by doing some more research on here, and that seemed to work too, but didn't put it in the galaxy forge folder. So I've got duplicates in the menus, but I'm not worried about that.

Question though, a lot of other people said putting them in the app data folders caused crashes. Seems to work fine for me though. Any clarity on why I came across that so much? I apologize if I'm just not connecting things well today. It's been a long week and I just wanted to have some fun relaxing :P

no idea why people would say the galaxy files in the stardock sins galaxy folders, unless they were having dificulites with the galaxy.manifest, also sins, entrenchment & diplomacy look in thier galaxy folder, then the sins galaxy folder for the small, medium and large maps, the map designer maps are in the ironclad games\sins of a solar empire\mapdesigner folder, and the galaxyforge maps are in the galaxyforge folder, and entrenchment & diplomacy both use the galaxy.manifest to get a list of maps for the program files galaxy folders, and the galaxy.manifest is replaced on each patch update, which is why I suggest the galaxyforge folder

kronrefugee, please open the map in notepad, and note the second line, if it doe NOT say versionNumber 3, then the map NEEDS to be updated with my map updater, btw there are a lot more changes than just the versionnumber line between earlier map formats and version 3 which is why I wrote the map updater, the map updater will correctly update the map to version 3 format.

It already said it was version 3

It appears to be missing its browse name & browse description, if that might make a difference, what should I put in there

the names and descriptions do not make any difference as they are only displayed to the right of the maps list, the file name is displayed in the list on the left, but the maps are sorted by number of gws in the map, so it might be below the bottom of thedisplayed list. just scroll down till you see the map file name

No, as in, it isn't in the list AT ALL

if you saved the map in the program files galaxy folder then you NEED to add the map to the galaxy.manifest, and update the maps count at the top of the file, but if the map is in the user space galaxyforge folder then there might be a problem with the map. if you want to email the map to me at harpo99999 at hotmail.com I will look at it after xmas

kronrefugee, I just finished a 5 player game on your map that I had placed in my user space\galaxyforge folder, then loaded diplomacy went to the galaxyforge map types scrolled down the list till i found your map by it's file name, then played a normal ai 5 way war on it with no issues, includeing getting an ally to 200 and all pacts.

I am not in the diplo beta, so could you just see if it works in entrenchment? And What OS do you have?

kron, I used xp32 bit for the test, but as diplo is a superset of entrenchment I would expect it to work perfectly, and I have just started a entrenchment game with the map no problems. which os are you using?

I am using xp as well, and just to check something, as in, double check that the map is in the right place, could you copy-paste the maps directory on your pc?

PS, did you like the map?

I did paste the path to my galaxyforge in the last email i sent you

and the map is interesting,

Thanks harpo, now its working, but one more quick question: I am trying to manipulate starting resources, so the players have ten time more starting resources (just an example), but when i load the map, it just has the normal level; solution(s)????

Ignore the last reply; i fixed it by setting the "Random Spawn Position" to false. Now i spawn with 1,000,000,000 credits, metal, and crystal, and i am alone in my star system (great for defense).
