Artifact Research

I have been playing and testing this game with and without mods, I still wonder why you haven’t included for instance SINS Plus in one of your upgrades? Maybe tweak but it fits your game.

Reading across your boards here I can see that I like many of the suggestions. But I do lack the suggestion of changing the artifact some. Since once finding an artifact gives you a bonus directly and losing the same artifact gives a loss of the tech advantages.

I would like to see an advantage in when you find the artifact then you get the option to research different levels of advantages for as long as you hold the planet that has the artifact. Whatever level of tech you research you keep even if you loss the artifact.

An extra request:

Then of course you can see that the different races have different tech why isn´t it possible to capture some of the other races tech and research that? That would add depth to the game and all for the research for longer match and much more advance technology. Would make for much more exiting battles since you don’t want to destroy some of the infrastructure and ships of the enemy since you want to capture and reveres engineer it.

Anyway that is my 2 öre for now!

It would be a nice addition to have a mid-level diplomacy tech of "artifact sharing" or something.

It would definitely make it more interesting to search for artifacts then because they all are very specific and do not necessarily match the player's role. What I mean is that in a multiplayer 5v5 for example a guy fighting on the front line would not benefit much from increased trade or tax income if he found them on one of the contested planets and a feeder does not need improved weapon damage that much. I think this is one of the reasons you see planet exploration rather rarely in online matches.

IANAL, but if he doesn't agree, he has proof that the developers at least looked at his mod. And if there's overlap between the elements he invented and the ones you can find in the expansion... then a jerk with an appropriately jerkish lawyer may see this as a reason to cry plagiarism (such a lawsuit probably wouldn't succeed... but it at leasts costs time and some money to deal with it).

On the other hand, Firaxis *did* include fan-mods in Civ4 expansions... so it's possible to do it, but AFAIK, the modders were approached to be testers for the closed betas first...

Cheers, LT.

Anyone checked the licence agreement for the game or terms of use for this site (if the mod is hosted here) to see if it says that any mod work done can be taken and used without the creators permission for this or any other game.

Another consideration to merging the game and mods is system requirments. Some mods can be a little taxing, and while I imagine most people on the forums have decent computers, there is a fear of narrowing the base of gamers.

I do wish mods were a little more prominent though.

If new planet types were made they just wouldn't take the ones from Sins plus. Sure they may make ocean or barren planets for example, but IC would almost certainly make their own higher quality textures, so I don't think copyright would be an issue (Uzi doesn't own the right to the concept of those planets after all).

Team artifacts reasearch sounds like an awesome idea! :D
