Wrong version of Ironclad?

So I bought the game today, installed it and updated it to v1.05, but when I try logging into Ironclad Online it tells me that I'm using the wrong version of it. I was under the impression that Ironclad came with the game and when I patched it it patched Ironclad too, but I may be wrong because I am an idiot.

to update the game to the most recent patch (1.181 for vanilla and 1.041 for entrenchment) you have to download impulse (found here www.impulsedriven.com)

As an aside, Impulse works as a game updater, community portal, and digital storefront - not a game client like Steam. Once Sins of a Solar Empire has been updated, you'll never need to open up Impulse again unless you want to.

Yeah, Impulse is very benign and you only need to run it when you want to update the game. It's basically the only form of DRM this game has--you cannot update unless you have a valid and registered CD-Key.
