[Mod Test] XXL Planets

Hi,

        I recently updated my XL Planets for Vanilla Sins 118.1 and was still somewhat sorrowful that i still hadn't yet gotten close to what the original idea was, which was to create planets the size of stars and stars that were massive. I wanted to recreate something along the lines of "real", haha, well... grand ambitions aside, i ran into difficulties, mainly getting the size up to much resulted in the grav wells producing a huge slowdown in the framerate of the game.

So i gave up and later went back to it and brought the sizes up more moderately. Well... during the update of course i was lamenting that i still hadn't gotten close. But i had some ideas pop into my head. Mainly, if the grav wells were increased, but didnt overlap, if the phaselane length was long enough, perhaps the framerate could stay close to normal, and still have the Huge Planets, :)

Well, i've been working on it tonight, and am testing some of the resizes. There was some small fracturing of the images as the zoom out distance reached the maxes, so i increased the zooms, at first only by two, and then by two again. It seems to have smoothed out the fracturing, so that is good, the planets themselves are now much closer to what i originally wanted when this idea came to me about 6 months ago. So that is good. Im thinking of course of trying to push it even higher, perhaps by another factor of two. Which means planets i had originally taken to 5 times there size are now twice, twice that, so four times as large. The Stars were originally increased 10 times, and four times that puts them at almost the 50 times i originally was shooting for.

With longer phase lanes on a custom map, and with fewer planets per system, it makes it manageable. I have yet to get a scout to the star yet, so that may still kill this, but i am hoping again, instead of thinking it cant be pulled off.

Anyway, i have uploaded the first version as a test to mediafire and wanted to ask if anyone in the community would like to try it out and let me know their thoughts?  I would appreciate it, thank you, take care and keep gaming and keep modding!!   :)

p.s. Everything else is the same, just the planet, distances and phase lanes changes put in.

Nice work by Newboerg, very handy, silly sometimes too, i made a giant basketball ship for my "Basketball Sins!!" mod, it was just for fun, not really even playable, haha, but it was cool.  :)

I actually have a few ideas for the mod.

First, you could try resizing the ships and the planets so that they are closer to the "real" size.

And second, it would be a lot of work but cant you just increase the speed of all of the ships to let them reach the star?

This is a really great idea and I hope it works out!

p.s. Does this work in vanilla sins?
