~ CAN I PLAY FOREVER? ~

i have a fetish you see....

i'm thinking of buying GALcivII vanilla, i'd like to know if it's possible to play this game on the kind of open-ended level where the game only ends if you chooses to end it or you lose, in other words will it be possible to play a senerio as long as i like (suppose i do a good job and stay alive while not engaging any hostile fractions) will teh game go on or will the game universe simply ends after a certain amount of hours?

i have a fetish for games that doesn't end, so i enjoy games like privateer and the sims as they don't end.

thanks for the generous help mates!

If you disable all victories except conquest and refrain from meeting the goals for it (or being defeated), then the game won't end.

I think the OP is referring to a game ending a'la Civ 4, where there is a limited number of turns, and then the game just ends.  Galciv is different than this, as long as no one wins, the game will go forever.

Hi!

CAN I PLAY FOREVER?
End of quote

IIRC quite some time ago there was a player who tried to prove the game scoring method was wrong, that it keeps increasing scores with the passing game time. He has ran the game "forever" (for as  long as he coud stand), but he reported he coudn't ran it over 212 or 220 game years. IIRC Brad confirmed that hard limit.

I haven't seen any notice about this issue since, so that hard limit may still exist.
