       When I was in high school (yes, time for another high school story) I had some friends (really, I did) and one day when we were talking (as friends tend to do) one of us came up with a silly idea (arn't they all?). I don't remember who, but that's not important, the idea is what's important: We were going to make candy.
       So there we were, a half dozen high school kids convinced we were going to make a fortune in the highly competitive candy market. None of us could cook worth anything, we had no financial resources to speak of, yet we were going to do it. Needless to say the idea (like many that we had) never made it out of the idea phase, but it was still a good idea.
       We had three candies planned out, they would form the cornerstone of our candy empire. The first was the SNAFU, it was going to be a hard sugar fruity candy. Sort of like runts, or sweet tarts, if you know what either of those are. In odd, irregular shapes and colors too, very non uniform. The second was the FUBAR, it was going to be a chocolate bar thing. Nothing too flashy, but we had to go with the bar in the name. And then there was the third.
       The third was going to be the awe inspiring SNAFUBAR. The standard FUBAR mixed in with SNAFU's, to make the SNAFUBAR. Chocolate yumminess combined with fruity yumminess. Probably taste terrible, but it was all about marketing anyways
       So anyone think we could have made any money with this idea? Or is it already copyrighted and we didn't realize it

hehe, the candy wasn't really supposed to taste good, not with the names it had, especially when combined. It was going to be a gimmick candy more then anything else.

These things are sale-able, I think. I've seen novelty sweets like spicy hot sweets and weird tasting gums packaged with strange names like in your idea. There are also candy packed in a plastic bottles that look like vitamin pill bottles, with a clever joke label pasted on the outside.

Man! We went through something similar in that we were making names for gross candies. There would be the chocolate corpse with a green, gooey centre called 'Cadavour' and the slogan would be 'Savour the flavour of Cadavour' (OK - we had to fuck around with the word to make it rhyme). There were also 'Gummy Sperms' and tonnes others that are escaping me. Damned memory! I'll report back if I remember anything.

I know it probably comes as a shock to get a reply this long after your article was posted, but hey it's 4:17 and I had nothing better to do that peruse past Humor articles.

I think your choice of names for your candies was pretty indicative of you and your friends ability to cook.

A lot of people who use those terms have no idea what they actually mean. If you do, and their meaning had something to do with the reason your chose them then I congratulate you for your sense of humor, if not, here's what you really considered calling your product (madison avenue probably didn't call!! )

SNAFU: Situation Normal All F***'d Up
FUBAR: F***'d Up Beyond All Recognition
