Deskscape Missing in Impulse

Hi, Hope somebody can help.  I opened Impulse earlier and tried to update to the latest version, but got an "invalid serial no" error instead.  I thought WTF.... WB and Fences updated OK, so it can't be that.

I then checked "Validate Installation" and it came back as not being correctly installed, suggesting that I update, which obviously I couldn't.   I then went via the uninstall route and cleared out all Deskscape remnants, but when I restarted Impulse to reinstall Deskscapes it was not listed anywhere on My Software page... it's totally gone and reboots/Impulse restarts have not restored it.

System info is as follows...

Vista Home Premium x64 (full retail version, fully updated)

AMD Phenom II x4 920

8 gb Corsair DDR2 RAM

Nvidia 9800GT @ 1gb (186.18 drivers)

Thanks, starkers. :)

That seems to be going around lately. LINK and LINK. I'm sure they will come up with a cure shortly. Good Luck.:)

Bugger, must have missed those threads somehow.   Anyhow, I tried the "reset data" suggestion from one of them... didn't bear fruit... still no Deskscapes, not even after an Impulse restart.

Bugger... and I so wanted to do something the new hybrid feature and a static (soon to be jiggling) wall of Dolly Parton.

:-" ;P :P

Thanks for your input, Wiz, I preshiates it. :)

*UPDATE*

I restored Deskscapes via one of my backups (2.92[b].070_09.25.2009) in Impulse.... works fine but still won't update.  I also tried the 3 previous versions (after data resets/sys reboots), but still no go.... still get the "Invalid Serial No." error.

Oh well, I'll be fine with the aforementioned version 'til it gets sorted. :)

I received the registration notice a week ago when starting Impulse and thought I had it fixed with the reset. Did work for about 3 Impulse start ups but that's all it lasted now every time I start Impulse I have to enter my Reg. information. It's just a pain in the butt to have to do this each time.

I notice in the other thread that this has been happening a while for you... apparently it has something to do with and XML error or something.  Hopefully the Stardock guys will find a fix soon, as I'd like to check out these new features.

That's not the case here.  The other other apps updated ok, it's just Deskscapes that's not.

Strange problem. Got a notification (through Impulse) to update Deskscapes, and did so.... w/o problems.

Try downloading and installing the free version (assuming you rebooted after uninstalling). It should appear in your Impulse.

If it does, right click on it and check the registration number.

If you don't have your registration number, get it from Stardock. My number doesn't appear on my page:

https://forums.wincustomize.com/account/regs

but does when I right click on it in Impulse.

Thanks, Doc, but I don't need to now.  I did an archive restore and got the previous version back.  It works fine but I still can't update, despite serial no checks, data resets, reboots and clearing previous files, etc.

Oh well, it's not like the update is imperative to my existence... I'll be fine until the fix is found. :)

I'm glad to hear you have it sorted out for now.The Stardock team should have it fixed soon but meanwhile you have a working version.:)

I would need to buy a much bigger monitor to run that one!;)

Go to the update page and click on the button under the help icon labeled "install all updates" and it will work.

Thanks CarGuy, that did the trick. :) :sun:

Now I'll go find something else that's not behaving as it should... I'm not happy unless I'm fretting over something. ;P
