Preorders, expired credit cards, and coupons

I preordered Elemental in Dec 2008. At the time, I had a discount coupon which was emailed to me by Stardock. The coupon was a "sorry if you had trouble" concession due to some server outages during a weekend I was making purchases. I applied the coupon to the order.

During the long wait for the beta release, my credit card expired. After the release, I received the email about the inability to fulfill my order and was asked to place a new order. I responded with a question about retaining the discount applied to my original order. The final response from Stardock was that the discount could not be used. The trouble ticket was marked as closed. End of story.

From my standpoint, I should be able to update my existing order with my new credit card expiration date. It seems that--if you are going to accept preorders months in advance of a release--you should provide the capability to modify CC info in the event someone's card expires during that period. At the minimum, I would expect some flexibility for a loyal customer.

If I could go back in time, I certainly would have used the discount on some other game, but now I don't have any particular recourse.

I realize that my issue was already addressed through email and that the ticket was closed out, so I don't have any expecations from this post. However, I did feel it was appropriate to assert my disappointment in a situation that I feel is not up to the high-level of quality and customer service I have come to expect from Stardock.

Can you PM me your ticket number?  I would like to look into that.  Our protocol is that we note the original order (so we see the coupon code) then have you notify us when you place the order.  Once you place the order, we refund you the coupon amount.  Please send me your ticket number so that I can find out who you were talking to and get it straightened out.

Good to go!

Hopefully we'll allow customers to edit their preorders in the future so we can avoid stuff like this.
