Fences broke my Sidebar-Widgets

Windows 7 German RTM

First of: I really like Fences. It's a simple idea (one that I think I saw in KDE4 before, but who cares) very well executed. And it solves an actual problem very elegantly.

Since it's a BETA, so I did expect bugs. Ah well, here they are, one is rather severe (and surprising):

I'm among the lucky ones with early access to Windows 7 Ultimate and my OS is German (but with additional an English language pack).

While fences isn't yet translated it works like a charm otherwise, the only thing that surprises me is that I now have two "View" entrys in my Desktop rightclick menu, one in English and one in German. Since the English one that Fences added doesn't actually bring any actual change in functionality I'm a little surprised that Fences had to touch this menu at all.

The most severe bug: After the installation of Fences almost everything related to the desktop's widget's is broken. I have yet to uninstall Fences but I really hope that removing it restores this functionality.

While all currently active widgets work normally, trying to add new ones doesn't even open a window. And everthing related to widgets in the control panel simply does nothing at all either. No matter how often I click any widget-related entry in the control panel absolutely nothing happens and I'm not taken to the settings page. It's like all the "links" are broken now.

While I'm perfectly aware that I'm using BETA software on a brand new, bleeding edge Windows OS I'm still a little surprised why Fences had to mess with certain Windows aoptions and settings at all, I don't really get the connection between widgets and Fences.

Well, I'm really looking forward to some helpful support and maybe an updated an fixed version ... I really like this product, but I also kind of like my widgets ;)

Well, I just unistalled Fences and after a reboot everything is back to normal. It's a shame, I only used it for a day and I already miss it.

I'm just a tiny bit disappointed to see, though, that nobody really seems to care about this feedback. :(

Mhhh, I might give Fences another shot in the future. :)

not that nobody cared...

depending on forum traffic, this one could have dropped down quick..

you might try in the 'Fences' area

Thanks, I was actually looking for Fences subforum here ... little did I know that there was an entirely different forum for it. This forum was the one linked to when clicking "support" on the Fences website.

I guess I'll still wait for Fences to mature a little bit before I give it another go.
