Tried to update, now it won't load

I have the retail version of Sins, and it's been installed since I got it, and it was updated to 1.05 and everything ran perfectly. Today I decided to update the game, and realised that I hade to install Impulse, so I do that and update Sins through that which causes no problems. Everything seems fine until I try to load the game.

It only opens a small window in the upper left corner and nothing happens. Game won't load and says something about a minidump. So I uninstall the game, Impulse and delete the Stardock folder in my program files, then restart my pc. I re install Sins from the disk and it won't work. I get the same problem. So I install the 1.05 patch that I had downloaded, and again, same problem. I've tried it another time to no avail and am wondering if anyone knows what happened?

I have a q6600 with 4 gigs of ram and a 9870. It worked fine before this. Please help.

Edit: I also updated all my drivers and that didn't help either.

are there no error messages that pop up?

Not until I manually close the window, then it says where the minidump was saved.

go to "user.setting" file and go to "showerrors" and change it to TRUE

minidumps are usually related to mods either with errors OR for an earlier version.

you could also try renaming your mods folder

 for xp
C:\Documents and Settings\'user name'\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\mods

or here for vista/windows 7
C:\Users\'user name'\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\mods

NOTE the first two folders after the 'user name' are hidden , so to see them you must first click on 'tools' then 'folder options', then 'view', then click on 'show hidden files& folders' then click ok, then you will be able to browse your want to the folder. I suggest when you find the folder that you create a shortcut to it on the desktop

NOTE 2 the 'user name' if the above paths is you WINDOWS log in user name, eg Administrator

hope this helps

Thanks for the replies, but neither of those fixes worked for me. As for the showerrors, there wasn't even an entry titled showerrors so I added one and it still didn't work.
