Revert to Windows classic issue

Hello i think i have read every single topic on how to fix this issue. I have downloaded many different versions of this software ranging from all different builds of 6 upwards. None seem to work other than 6.3 and 6.4.
(Trials as i wanted to test it out prior to purchasing)

My OS: Windows vista Ultimate 32-bit With SP1 initially, however after nothing worked i downloaded SP2 and had the exact same results. Is NVIEW a problem, (i have an 8800gtx). I can't find it "enabled anywhere" .

The sources for all of my installs have been primarily from this site (Newer versions only as i can't find older ones prior to 6.3/4).

WindowBlinds version : WindowBlinds 6.02 (build 74 x86 - Vista Edition)

* [I AM DUEL SCREENING, However this doesn't change results when i use one only one screen (one or the other)]** I also have updated drivers for everything!!

Is there way to fix it, or maybe my installs for previous versions are corrupt. If so and the above information indicates that, where could i obtain proper working versions 6.0 to 6.2

It should be working, that is my main concern and i have read at least 50 posts on fixes.

Thankyou, hope anyone  can help.

crunkyman...first let me say you've certainly done your homework! Nice post. The 2007/2008 files look a little old...but maybe the subsequent releases/updates are the ones giving you the hiccups (Yeah, sorry..a bit of Captain Obvious there). Also let me say I am on Vista home premium/32 bit and my sysinfo:

WindowBlinds version : WindowBlinds 7.0 (build 176 x86 - Vista Edition)

You should open a ticket with all this info at stardock support...can't hurt.

Have you checked in Impulse whether the app is installed correctly? Just a thought. My 'Impulse' wasn't updating and I went through a huge thing with SD support (Curt was really great) and ended up uninstalling, reintalling and not using MyColors much since (don't know if you have it) after saving the Aero theme. Then I reinstalled Impulse and reinstalled my other apps...and checked to see they were installed correctly. Try to close Impulse after each time you check, as it screws up on sequential checks of WB and MyColors.

I don't know if that helps at all, but your prob sounds a bit like the one I had when trying to revert to the Aero Theme....

Good luck, mate! :sun:

The version you posted is not a trial and begs the question of where it came from. Trial version and purchased version can be obtained from here - WindowBlinds.

aha. Thanks Hankers. Sorry, crumpyman...but I figure Hankers might well have found "the problem".

This was one of the versions i used... (last one that hasn't worked for me). If you want i'll install a trial of the exact same one. And it still won't work.

And re post it, take a screenshot to. I have support ticketed it and am yet waiting on a reply. Not worried though only just submitted it.

The problem is, that versions 6.0 to 6.2 don't work yet they are meant to. Offical versions not an illegal version like this latest one i resorted to installing as none of the trials even worked.. Or should i say patching.

Trial version or no trial version it didn't work and still doesn't i will give that Impulse a go. I was under the impression impulse was a tool/program created to update you to the latest version. And only if you were a client.

I would think that all versions i tried said they installed correctly even official versions from CCNET/Download.com i think it was.

I might just wait it out for the response from the ticket. Then see if that works first.

I saw lots of people with the same issue to me, so if i could find a solution that hasn't been covered on here that would be great!!

I will look into it straight away and use impulse ASAP posting results.

Thanks guys.

crunky: uninstall and reinstall throuh Impulse. If that doesn't work, uninstall using Revo Uninstaller (free): but only the stuff in the dark print!

Then reinstall using Impulse, Reboot after the uninstall (revo).

I will do so tomorrow. It is quite late and i must get some sleep.

Will let you posted. Impulse sounds like the key.

Thanks will reply in approximately 20hours or less.

If you have a pirated version installed....along with prior/post installs of the LEGITIMATE product then your system is likely hosed.  Installing warez is not a good idea, particularly with programs which are closely tied into your Operating System.

My advice would be to uninstall ALL versions, legitimate and otherwise, hope your system is actually 'clean', and obtain the legitimate product which actually DOES work as expected and then you will be entitled to appropriate customer support...;)

That's some good advice. I wanted him to uninstall everything thru Impule...but Revo might really be the way to go...and the advice about scanning your system with a really good AV (or three) might be the best of all. No telling what might be sitting there, crunkyman.

Also...if you decide to buy, then unintall the trialware through Impulse and reinstall thru Impulse.

the download from stardock trial version takes you to download.com - there are no prior versions at download.com - only 6.4

installing a trial version now may not work, if WB dectects you have had a version installed - it will decide your trial time is up

I am unclear on what the issue here is?

You seem to be saying WB 6.3/6.4 works correctly but earlier versions do not?

There is no issue..... a guy using a crack is asking for support.

Not a client sounds like no valid purchased version...

That's how it's gonna pan out. As usual, Hankers and yrag have it.

OK I had to go to school, I guess you could call it undesirable hibernation  DrJBHL.

This post with the information initially as mentioned in my earlier post. Was an illegal version which I activated seeming ALL different trail versions did not work.

Not sure if I mentioned after each install/reinstall I used ccleaner to make sure it was really removed through registry etc.
What I did:

[] I removed through IMPULSE (Initial post version)
[] Installed a version from http://wareseeker.com/download/windowblinds-6.2-build-62.rar/396328
[] I clicked all of the "External Download Mirror links" hoping to find one that was linked to stardock or a more trustworthy source.
Upon clicking and watching my Browser connect to the sites to receive the downloads, the second one connected to "www.stardock.com"
Perfect, Trial copy originating from stardock. This time for those unpleased with my last resort being an illegal version.
[] In Impulse there is no tab for installed products as at this stage before install there is none. (Install of trial mentioned above)
[] Successfully installed, applied desired skin. Clicked Continue when trial window came up. Then it was as easy as the skin loading.
All was well, wanted to ensure this, so I rebooted. The skin was not applied.

[] Went back into Windows blinds, and checked impulse. Impulse notified me that it was correctly installed. So I simply tried to re apply the theme again.
[] Voila, it is magic, IMPULSE. Just hope things stay this smoothly through the remaining days of my trial :) And along the way the other versions I had tried must have been digging an error hole even further.

!!!PROBLEM SOLVED!!!

SOLUTION: For anyone with this error I advise you do the following.

Step 1. Watch the sources for your trials, and note that versions 6.0 and upwards DO WORK with VISTA, XP No matter which service packs. (Vista SP1, Vista SP2, XP SP1 SP2 and SP3).
Step2. Download a copy of IMPULSE from stardock site, create an account.

Step 3. If you have windowsblinds installed and it isn't working simply do the following below.          However if you found it wasn't working and you uninstalled it, reinstall it again so that you can do an easy un-install through IMPULSE

-Impulse and find it in the "My software section" Simply right click it and Un-Install. Note: If there are any issues with uninstalling close e the application, re open it and try again. I did not wait for the time it said it was going to connect and do it automatically. If you have UACC enabled on vista I’m assuming it does not automatically do it for you. As I had to click Un install again.
-After Un installed.  And rebooted through IMPULSE
I suggest you download a copy from either stardock.com or if you wish to use an alternative version to 6.3/6.4 You can obtain a copy from here  http://wareseeker.com/download/windowblinds-6.2-build-62.rar/396328 where it has the download mirrors click the "Second one" It should connect to stardock. Download the file and install as you would any other version of windowsblinds.

Step 4.  Try applying a theme, it should be fixed now. If the theme does not apply after a reboot and reverts to classic once again. Just open Windowsblinds and re apply the theme.

:)

Thanks to AND FINAL Version Notes
I would like to thank everyone for helping, DrJBHL especially and for those who thought differently about my "case". Well looks like it all worked out, screenshot of working Windowsblinds. However I must say this template I chose to download is not quite what the picture makes it out to be :(

Ah well I’ll work it out and at least everything is working now!!!!!    http://i26.tinypic.com/20urhux.jpg

Just a reminder....the trial version of Windowblinds will time-out...from the date of its first install, after which you will be obliged to uninstall, or purchase the full version....;)

And make sure you scan with a couple of AV's/Malware detectors to see what other 'little gifts' Warez may have left you.

Hahaha, all fine for that thanks. Patch for it was nothing suss.

Did you like my post DrJBHL? It had formatting like bold etc, but then it went all weird and started incorporating html inside of everything at the start and i couldn't edit it.

OK...taken out of circulation....crunkyman is happy with his 'patch'...ergo he is using a warez WB.

I also 'took out' crunkyman
